I got the Blu-Ray of this film for my 22nd Birthday in July I had seen the film previously and while it is HIGHLY!!!!!! fictionalized it's still a very good film, the acting in it is superb I would recommend it purely for entertainment value but if people are looking for something a bit more factual about Mozart then I would recommend the book "Mozart's Letters, Mozart's Life" as it's semi autobiographical

If you go onto youtube and search "Salieri's Plan" that is my fave scene in the whole Film

excellent film, and title star- Tom Hulce, is an out gay man...his laugh in the film was infectious/irrestible

Really? I never knew he was Gay you learn something new everyday but F Murry Abraham made that film what it is IMO, Tom Hulce was amazing in it too but F Murry Abraham stole the show as far as I'm concerned

He was such a tragic character. Loving and hating Mozart's genius, all at once.

F. Murray Abraham's performance was phenomenal.

Someone recommended I see this movie, so I did. Then, after watching it for 5 or 6 hours (however long it is) I found out it was fictionalized. Needless to say, I kicked the ass of the person who told me to watch it.

But yes, it was an interesting movie even if it was a fabricated account of history.

Nice thread idea, Darren. I've seen this movie a few times on TV and once on DVD and so nice to know the Blu-Ray is out for it. Just looking at the screengrabs at that review, it looks like it's incredible in that format - crisp looking picture and it must sound great? Mental note: Christmas gift to self.

Like MJEH89, I too originally watched it thinking it was a portrayal of historically accurate events, but found out after that it's only a screenwriters' concept of "what might have been" with grains of truth used to elaborate upon. I still enjoy the movie. F. Murray Abraham also popped up as the villain in "Star Trek: Insurrection" - one of the few other films I've seen him in.

Haha. 180 minutes, so "only" 3 hours. I'll give you that sometimes it feels longer if the mood isn't right for it. "Dances With Wolves" is even longer at 236 minutes for the directors cut (nearly 4 hours) but it moves reasonably well.

I don't see it as that. I just feel really sorry because he probably just wanted someone to say he was okay. It wasn't about Mozart. It was the fact that he wasn't included. That must have really hurt him

Yes! One of my very favourite films! So many terrific scenes in that movie.The best scene for me is when Mozart dictates the requiem to Salieri. Actually that is one of my all-time favourite scenes in all movie-dom.
