It's not meant to be taken literally. The idea is that no one should you tell what to believe. Explore and decide for yourself, what your beliefs should be. In other words, don't believe everything you hear. Make up your own mind.

I think Fasting in Ramadan is only during the day, past 6:00 P.M you can have a normal life.

And did you know that during the Ramadan, is the time when most food is eaten in the societies that practice this ritual, and that women spend all day preparing a feast for dinner.
