I was addicted to it. I was in early high school (grade 7-10) when it aired. I used to sneakily record it on the VCR and watch it really late at night. My mum found out though and quickly 'banned' me from watching it.

I ended up picking up the whole DVD set when I was in China a few years later. Great series, really edgy stuff for the time.

It was based on the UK Queer as Folk that ran for only 2 series. It is quite different (the 'Justin' character is 15, not 18) but it has its own charm. I'd definitely grab a copy of that if you haven't seen it.

I watched the whole series this summer and I loved it. I would like them to do a movie.

Brian if fucking HOT. Justin,Michael,Ted and Emmit are all adorable and Debbie is the type of mom we'd all like to have. I fell in love with all of them.

The one thing that drove me crazy was the way Michael holds his spoon and folk it just seem odd.

Gale Harold is one sexy S.O.B.

Loved it! It was my favorite secret soap opera addiction. I bought all but the last season if I can remember correctly and have watched every episode at least twice.

Yep! Back when it was on showtime. I thought it was pretty overdone at the time with some of the scenes. Esp. the ones in the clubs. I don't even remember how long ago that was. Like 8 years or something?

The British original was vastly superior, though.

Just started watching season 2 on DVD and I'm totally hooked. My faves so far: Justin, Michael and Micheal's mom. Can't believe that I never watched it when it was still on TV.

Yes every week before the advent of DVRs. It's such a shame they haven't made a series like it since.

No. Queer as folk is one of the worst gay themed drama shows ever. I don't give a fuck what any of you say.

I was fan of QAF from season one to the end of series. Enjoyed all the characters as they related to being gay and how to deal with gay issues. The one character I loved was Debbie a mother who was understanding of her son being gay and supporter of the gay community.

The line love best from season one when Brian tells Justin now you know what is rimming.

I loved the series. I now have the entire set. Time to start watching it again.
I had a female roomie once and she came into the room as I was watching it. When it was over she said "So ... That's what rimming is."

Tried watching it twice, but I can't go on because it gets on my nerves. It's dramatic for the sake of drama and relies way too hard on stereotypes and utopic ideals.

Which is a shame, because I quite liked Michael - at least in the few first season episodes I saw. And the porn is always nice, I guess

What didn't you like about it?

oh gosh where do i begin.

no diversity

brian's relationship with that other guy sucked.

emmitt being ex gay for the majority of the series.

i could go on.

I saw Oz before I saw queer as folk. I don't know if that deals with my hatred towards it.

That's part of the story, which plays out in real life everyday!

I'll co-sign on the diversity issue. But, besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed the series. Emmitt's ex-gay issue only lasted a few episodes, Brian and Justin's relationship is what the entire series is based on. On the UK version Ted's character was killed off, so it was nice to see them develop his story. One of my biggest problems with the series is that they lost the rights to SPUNK, the opening theme song :( :

I watched the whole series. I felt the plot rather lost its way in the middle but it came back in the end, thank goodness. I felt the plot should revolve around the few central characters - the few subplots thrown up hardly did anything to the story nor did they enrich the characters.

I was rather glad the series ended. It would be a pity to see it lose its way again.

When QAF was on cable i was 2 young to watch it, my parents had parental controls on the tv, so i couldn't watch nething above pg13 movies. But my friend gave me his dvd's 4 QAF and Oz, i liked QAF, but Oz was my fave. the only thing i h8d about QAF was that it was to much like my real life. Oz was so good and 2 me the guys were hotter. HBO knew what they were doing with that show, the only thing i h8d is the blood n gore, but i did luv the hot sex and shower scenes. I was, and still am, surprised that HBO could get away with doing certain things on there. i've seen a lot of the actors from those shows on commercials and other tv shows, 1 guy from Oz is on a FedEx commercial, and I'm saying 2 myself "isn't that the guy who got raped by the african?" or "weren't u the guy jacking off n bed and running around naked n almost every episode?''. i mean even some of the racist skinheads were hot on there, and i h8 racist skinheads.

^lol. okay so I'll admit the guys are hotter on Oz.

Btw, that guy in the AllState commercials played Ryan O'Rielly. Ryan was never raped by Adebisi. Adebisi raped Peter Schibetta in the kitchen. *nightmares*

Most of the male/male interactions on this show were seriously fucked up. So, most of the sex was coerced or non-consensual.

QAF and OZ are worlds apart. Comparing a gay soap opera to a gritty prison drama...idgi y'all. But okay.

sorry I went off topic with that. yea the african was adebisi, he raped the mexican dude. but he also raped some guy he had tied down to the bed, the scene wasn't graphic, i think it was left up 2 our imagination, i think his name was kenny, he looked mulatto, he was real cute, now he, kenny, is on some ups or fedex commercial. ryan o'rielly was the 1 who was running around naked, i think he had more nude scenes than ne1 else on that show, he was probably the hottest 1 on the show. him and that guy from Law n Order. and was QAF and Oz on HBO or Showtime? by the time i became of age they were already off the air.

As great as it is it's not a patch on the UK version.

I watched and adored the UK series. The US one was an embarrassment in comparison.

UK series was believable (somewhat) and had really great character development despite the low number of episodes. It spoke very loudly without jamming the point down your throat like the US version did. I watched most of the US version and pretty much cringed all the way through it. Characters were so stereotypical and two dimensional. But the UK version is nothing short of brilliant.

The third episode of the UK version is my very favorite. The one where they go to the club and get numbers to put on their clothes while "Hold That Sucker Down" was playing - seriously - best episode ever.

I'm posting this link because it took me *forever* to find out what this song was...haha.

This is another incredible series. I bought the season box sets as they were released and have seen the entire series several times. It's starting to wear on me so supposed I should put it away for a few years.

I also bought the British QAF when it was first released. It's more realistic than the American version.

Man oh man I have a lot of DVD box sets! Too many.

I enjoyed the UK version tremendously. Never seen its US counterpart, so I can't make comparisons.
