There are a lot of very expensive creams/preperations/lotions which claim to make you look younger. See, for example:

www.loreal.com/

As with organic food, I think these products are a total ripoff.

What do you think?

I agree with you. By and large it's all useless crap. They are selling a "dream". Notice too that they use only young models to sell the stuff. Models that don't need "anti-aging" anything. If anything, a good moisturizer applied at night is probably the most beneficial for aging skin. Other than that a good soap and, of course water. Drinking lots of water is also great too for keeping the body...and the skin...hydrated.

Orlandude has made some excellent points, but also remember not to spend time under the sun without very good protection and wear a hat or cap under very sunny conditions.

There are simple and inexpensive skin creams that do restore the texture of the skin.
Try "Bepanthol for the face" , which retails in Greece at Euro 15 and is one of the best creams of its type on the market, highly recommended by dermatologists.

Anti- aging creams are a rip off because:

1. There is no way of de-aging skin by using a cream (apart from maybe retinol).

2. All you can do is avoid further aging by wearing a sun block (important), and lightly moisturising any dry areas with a simple emollient. Overloading skin with cream is bad.

3. Any "anti-aging" ingredient is seldom used in commercial creams at a high enough concentration to make any difference (i.e. retinol).

4. Scientists are now discouraging the use of Nano-particles (a recent anti-age innovation) in anti-aging skin-creams, because they are concerned that they could permeate the skin and enter the deeper tissues where they could cause cancer.

5. When was the last time you saw a line-free eighty-year old?

Don't waste your time, the only stuff that is fda approved to reduce the apperanace of aging are prescription retinoids which you get from your doctor, not some perky little twenty something at the lancome counter. BUt ya, other than that, just wear lots of sunscreen, Canadian or Euro is better, with UVA filters such as Mexoryl SX, Xl, avobenzone or Tinosorb.

I usually whip up my own batch of anti-wrinkle cream whenever I feel the need.

All the usual wrinkles are gone by the time the cream is ready.

So far, everything I've applied it to is doing quite well, thanks.

I'll prepare personalized batches by special request, and make special deliveries, too - lol

It's all a sales pitch and selling a fantasy.
If our countries were able to use the money people spend on worthless cosmetics into medical research we could problem cure Cancer, AIDS, leprosy and yes, even develop legitimate products to slow up the aging process.

If you read the disclaimers on the commercials, you discover many interesting things. They may claim a 43% decrease in wrinkles, but then you learn that the study was done with only 23 women and 12% of them noticed maximum results.

Do the math.

Work ? Are you kidding ??

<---Look at my avatar. I'm 86 years old !

(ThaNK YOU, Clinique !) :p

The only thing I know about it is the Consumer Reports study on these products. They said they all are about the same, and price has nothing to do with effectiveness.

I remember the second highest rated was this Olay trio of products. The highest was like $200 more. So they recommended the cheap Olay one that cost only like $60.

just thought I'd add that.

Drinking lots of water & shielding ones skin from the elements helps reduce "the signs of aging" (so does a good gene pool !). All those products are offered 'cause most people don't bother with the 1st two. Also, 'cause most people are lazy & want a "miracle in a jar". Just stay in a darkened room & have lots of sex, you'll look FABULOUS! lol

You English have such great words for things...Codswallop!.... I love it.
