I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I have curiosity about something. A few months ago I read this interview with Chad Hunt at The Sword, and he had this to say about gay-for-pay performers:

For instance, for me, the gay-for-pay boys, a lot of the times that is the way for a boy eventually come out. Let’s go with Brad Star. Brad Star was straight, and now he’s gay. Let’s go with Nash Lawler. Let’s go with Phenix Saint. Let’s go with Clay Maverick. The list goes on and on. Boys who I personally know were straight when they got into the industry but realized maybe they weren’t quite as straight as they thought they were. I was always one of the guys on sets that straight boys would gravitate to, I think partly because they knew that I was married and had a kid. So I could relate to them. There were plenty of so-called straight boys who off-camera would be in my room...

For a lot of people, gay porn is the outlet that brings them out. Are there boys who are — I would never call themselves straight, they can call themselves straight all they want. Quite frankly, they’re not straight, they’re bisexual, whether you want to admit that or not is completely up to you. But you are. If you can get it up and maintain it, you’re bisexual.

Do you think that this is just a very personal point of view, or does it hold some degree of truth? Also, isn't it a bit bizarre that some people would see porn as some kind of outlet for their same sex attraction, when it's very much something public and, as you have said before, it will never go away? One would think that there are better, less risky options.

Thanks for your input, by the way. :-)

'Erik Rhodes' (1982 - 2012)

'Roman R a g a z z i' (1974 - 2012)

'Arpad Miklos' (1967 – 2013)

'Wilfried Knight' (1975 – 2013) suicide

Eric didn't kill himself and that wasn't "in the last year." He died of a heart attack.

Arpad (who was a friend of mine) died two years ago and he suffered from extreme depression. That's not porn-related. He was a wonderful person and more of a man that you'll ever be.

Wilfried also died over two years ago and his death was the result of being despondent over the death of his husband and how, because of DOMA, his husband's family was legally able to take literally EVERYTHING from him and leave him destitute living on the street.

And a nice firm "Fuck You."

Is it usually the people who aren't invested in the topic and/or who have not much interest in the topic that have so much to say about it?

Lec

well and clearly the ones who are just looking for shit to cause. As you can see, to find the three who "suicided" in "the last year," he had to go back THREE years. I guess he was just trying to upset me by choosing the ones he knew were my friends?

Some people really shouldn't try to out-asshole me. They're... just not very good at it.

Do you think military personnel should partake in sex shoots whilst they're on Active Duty?

do I think they SHOULD? YES... ALL of them.

... but it all seriousness....

From what I understand there are logistical reasons to not allow them to shoot porn, I guess some of it related to them becoming targets for blackmail. Which... if you're making porn movies and those will be posted on the internet... you'd think they're not too worried about people seeing them having sex. That said... the military has all sorts of rules and while I don't necessarily understand all of them, I don't totally understand military culture enough to be able to have a truly informed position.

When you join the military, it's understood that you give up a lot of your rights and are owned by the military. Why porn matters to them, I'm not sure. But it does. So it's against their rules.

Therefore, no... I think Active Duty military personnel shouldn't break the rules they agreed to and should wait until they're out of the military to shoot porn.

I've only met Brad Star once and it was at a convention 8 years ago and the topic of whether he was gay or not didn't come up. So... can't really comment there. I've kept in a very loose contact with Nash Lawler since the days of Fratmen (where he was known as Kenny) and he's still not gay. I've never met the other two, although Phenix Saint just followed me on Twitter, so we'll see if that means he's interested in being a Titan man.

I know of a few guys who claimed to be straight who were really bi or at least enjoyed the gay sex. But they're not nearly as common as the ones who really are straight. I also know that a few of the guys who started with the "These Guys Are All Straight" websites were publicly called straight and they didn't really care either way and just let themselves get called whatever the marketing guys called them. But when they left and started to work for other sites, were totally open about being gay. Alex Graham worked for Corbin Fisher and he's a Titan man now.

I'm also reminded of Brady Jensen who told us all at Cocksure Men that he was gay and wanted to be marketed as gay but in reality was bi and had a girlfriend. He eventually told me that he just didn't want to deal with the issue and have countless people insisting that he must be gay so he just called himself gay so as to not have to deal with the topic.

Did you ever meet rob Halford?

we've chatted a lot online and met once, although we met before we ended up chatting online so he doesn't remember that.

Do you have anyone one in mind you want to work with that you haven't had the chance to yet?

Pat you are now blocked. I think you are a disgusting human being.

Oh don't worry about me. It takes a lot more than THAT to get under my skin.

It's kind of weird to have that same conversation about Eric. He was one of the nicest people I ever met.

Lemme tell you a story about Eric. So... I was at the GayVNs in 2007. Fratmen were nominated and I was at the ceremony even though we knew we weren't going to win. That party is always fun and the alcohol is free so.. yay.

Anyway... I was talking to a couple guys I knew and was saying something kind of funny and catty about someone. I turned to my friend on the right to give my punchline and mid-sentence I realized that my friend had stepped to the side and Eric had joined our conversation. Now... I had never met him, he had no idea who I was, and my internal monologue said "Oh shit.... the hot popular guy is here and you're talking to him and he's going to be a total douche to you." But I had started the sentence so I just finished.

Instead of giving me the "why are you talking to me" look, he smiled huge, burst out laughing at whatever silly thing I said and joked back with me about something else. Continued chatting with me for a few minutes like I was a guy he'd known for a long time.

A year later I ran into him at the Phoenix Convention and he not only remembered my name, he invited me to join his little mini party by the pool and was just one of the nicest, funniest and most unguarded men I knew.

Eric didn't kill himself in the literal way. He didn't commit suicide. He DID, however, have a dependency to his workout regimen and steroids. I know a lot of men out of porn who also get hooked on working out like a drug and end up damaging their bodies. Eventually it caught up with him and he died of a heart attack. He was 30.

Oh for sure. Most of them are exclusive with other studios or did bareback and Titan won't allow me to work with them.

Kennedy Carter and I were always wanting to work together but he was always exclusive with another studio so I wasn't able to shoot with him. By the time I became a director for Titan, he had stopped performing. We're still friends but never got to work together.

I always melt when I see Luca dicorso....did you ever meet him?

Not that I remember. I don't think so. If I did it would have been very quickly in passing at an industry function.

I also think he's stunning.

That's a beautiful story.

Although provocative, there's a regular observation under Pat's post. Like every kind of work, porn is subject to some hazards. Chefs, lumberjacks, doctors, accountants...they all face unique pitfalls, sometimes very serious. Quite often, as you point out, it's not the work itself which is dangerous, but the stress and habits which form around it which are harmful. In my own field, alcoholism and drug addiction are common.

No doubt porn gets stereotyped. But being a porn star is not as safe and gentle as being an author of children's literature, no matter how much consumers might want to fancy otherwise.

What's the most difficult type of scene to film? I'm guessing it's an orgy scene with 5 or 6 models and having to deal with all those bodies and body parts that one is trying to film over, under, around and through :-)

I dunno, I only knew one children's book writer and she died of a heroin overdose. So...

Yeah, pretty much. It's also difficult to film a DP scene.

But the worst is shooting a scene with two guys who just have no chemistry and neither will take the lead. They just stand there like zombies.

So you don't want to share your insights on the occupational hazards of being a porn star, fair enough.

So you don't want to share your insights on the occupational hazards of being a porn star, fair enough.

Well it's not that I don't want to share occupational hazards of being a porn star... I've done that over and over again.

You can't hide porn... everyone will know so if being a porn star is something that would ruin your chance at something else you want to do like being president or a preschool teacher, it's not a good idea.

It's easy to get hooked on the adoration of fans and make bad decisions because of that.

It's easy to get seriously damaged by the nasty comment fuckwits whose only hobby is going to the mean gay porn blogs to post nasty shit about you.

You work in an industry where you're judged by your looks. You can be the nicest man in the world but if you look fat in a scene... people will go after you viciously. And if you don't stay in top shape, you'll not get work. That can be damaging.

Assholes will judge you. Look at Steve Grand... he didn't even make porn, he just did some work as an underwear model and while his new album is rather fantastic and sounds amazing and he threw everything he has into it.. there's always some bitter queen saying "you should have stayed posing naked, you whore."

The work can be tiring. The hours are long. The days can be grueling. Even I can admit that not being able to go into a public place without getting recognized can be tiring and I'm not even really a "porn star." Going to a gay resort with my husband has been known to be... a bit odd.

But as someone who worked in both porn and a corporate job... I saw a lot more drugs when I worked a corporate job. People showing up stoned, leaving their desks to go to coke in the bathroom, being drunk after lunch on Thursday and Friday, being too hung over to meet on Monday... It gets pretty old to have people tell me that "porn stars are all on drugs and kill themselves" when that's just not accurate.

Have you ever worked with Brett corrigan? His smooth sweet asshole makes me cum so hard. I get jealous of anyone who gets to lick it:p
