I just watched a movie called "Dorian Blues".

If you're just coming out... or even if it was a while ago.... or it hasn't happened yet..

If you've got Netflixx, add it.

no, really.

it would be worth it.

i mean, I hate being a film fag (and I am...), but that was one of the best edited movies I've seen, and I laughed my ass off to boot.

nothing like my own coming out at all... but I still felt a lot of kindren spirit to it. (anyone from PEI will get that)

I watched Dorian Blues, last night. It was a good movie, almost great. I laughed, I cried, and I got a little horny for the older brother. Thanks for suggesting it. I would say it is a must see movie.

Okay, you convinced me. I'm gonna find a way to download it today.

Usenet...... ;)

It's currently in alt.binaries.movies.divx (25th Feb, 700MB) and alt.binaries.dvdrcore (10th March, 4.3GB).

I have to say, I was dissapointed.

The movie had a nice feeling. It had some funny parts as well.

However, it felt like just another gay movie. Another movie that goes with the stereotypes. It doesn't really help the gay community in its fight to show tha gays are everything and everyone. And I really think, that with that type of idea, it gives you potentially whole different plots to movie. This way, it was much of what I have seen.

I mean even the movie CRAZY, that the person above is suggesting, seems to be the same thing.

However, the positive, the quarterback brother is HOOOOT!

Sorry, I didn't see those "Same old stereotypes" at all.

yeah, he had a couple queeny friends, but his brother also had a bunch of gay football buddies, and the gay nerd in high-school he met wasn't hot, but he was kinda "Nerd-cute".

The lead Character was quiet and introspective, but not a "stereotypical" gay character, and to be honest, as an editor, I was really impressed by how well that movie was made.

oh just pay the 5 bucks and rent it.
It hasn't been released here in the UK yet (well it's not on amazon.co.uk or blockbuster.co.uk anyway). But yes, it's a lot easier to rent it if it's available.

Watched it last night! Didnt realize there was a thread on it already!

Its warm and funny - has the greatest younger bro any one could wish for - - and no i wasnt talkin about his looks alone - just LOVED the way he came to his brothers rescue anytime at all, beating the shit out of those who messed with him.
Also connected when he cried after losing the athletic scholarship in college.

Incidentally theres one misgiving I have. Gays essentially have weak dads - this one was too overbearing. Anyone else think so too?

Who said that gays have weak Dads?

you gotta stop reading that Focus on the family literature that likes to blame parents for having gay kids.

I've known LOTS of gay guys with fathers just like that.

Guess Im a bit confused. Most folks where I come from (traditional India) have oppresive opiniated Dads. Theyre as straight as arrows and seriously into women......

Are you saying it plays out differently in the US, Soil? (Hopefully this doesnt digress from the thread....)

PS Id die for a brother like that. Hes protective. And unbiased. I never had a brother but thats is the kind Id always want. I think - its a more a film on brother love than anything.....

I'm saying that the kind of father you have has absolutely no bearing on wehter you're gay or not.

There's no relation between the kind of father you have and your sexual orientation.

I've known many gay men with many different kinds of fathers and mothers and brothers and sisters.

Means nothing and doesn't make a difference.

I've never seen it, and I doubt I will....

Not much of a demand for "gay" movies in Saskatchewan...I've seen a few shuffled away at the local Blockbuster (Get Real, Sugar) but nothing like the more recent ones (Eating Out, etc, etc, etc).

IF Brokeback wasn't as big as a film as it became, I doubt my local store would even have bothered carrying it. I'm looking forward to April 4th, just to go to the Blockbuster and see how many copies they have still sitting on the shelf in this small town...

The same thing happened to Capote. They had about 12 or 13 copies on release day, and almost all of them...maybe minus one, was still there.

But, if I ever start renting movies online, I'll keep this one in mind.

"Beautiful Thing", an English art house film from some years ago. A stunning coming out film if ever there was one.
