It's not about songs where they BELT, I just want to see what most people think are the best interpretations (in terms of the meaning of the song, the meaning of the word, the expression of the emotions...not technique!) by vocalist who are considered belters, if their best interpretations are in songs where they belt quite a lot or in songs they belt much lesser or none at all.

Although she does belt quite a bit, this is one of her best interpretations. She doesn't overdo the runs and adlibs and sings in a more restrained, straight-foward, way.

Patti LaBelle - All Right Now

Although she belts a lot in this song, it FITS the song's emotional tone of assertiveness, strength, power and self-confidence.

Patti LaBelle - Yo Mister

I believe this was a colaboration with Prince...the vocals are genius IMO. She starts belting only more towards the end but in her lower and mid register...the way she was expressing the song's meaning, the way she'd sing the words...impressive! It's a funky jam with a pertinent message and expressed accurately.

Mariah Carey - Petals

One of her VERY best songs, both lyrically, structure and vocals-wise. She doesn't belt AT ALL yet her interpretation is amazing!

Aguilera's Hurt is not the best interpretation IMO she did better

The Patti Labelle are quite good tho

another of my favs

ROBERT JOHNSON // Come on in my kitchen

There's also ELLA FITZGERALD // Cry me a river
and

BILLIE HOLIDAY // strange fruit .... posted in another thread
thats some good inter.

Mariah Carey - Looking In (Christina's "Hurt" piano melody was ripped off from this one...muahahah!)

Anyways, this song is both amazing lyrically, one of the deepest, introspective and mature songs she's ever written. Her vocal delivery is amazing as well...again, without belting...IMO, this is when Mariah is at her best!
