Shutterbugg"-Big Boi's new single from his (finally) soon-to-be-released "Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty"-satisfies both his core audience and mainstream hip-hop fans. Over a '70s electro-funk beat with crashing claps and stuttering synths, the Atlanta rapper notes his intent to reach a broad base: "I'm Sgt. Slaughter, I keep my shit cooked to order/In order to satisfy my people in Georgia and 'cross the water." "Shutterbugg" also marks the triumphant return of producer Scott Storch, who merges Big Boi's Southern drawl and rapid-fire staccato flow with the current dance vogue. The song's hook and bridge channel not so much T-Pain as Roger Troutman, utilizing what sounds more like a vocoder than Auto-Tune for full retro effect. With its mesmerizing rhymes and dancefloor lean, "Shutterbugg" has the potential to join the pantheon of hits in the OutKast discography.

Big Boi Sets July 6 Debut Album Release Date

After numerous delays, Big Boi's solo debut, "Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty," will finally be available on July 6th on Def Jam Recordings. First single, "Shutterbug," produced by Scott Storch, has already been released.

Other songs in the 14-track album include the bassy, piano-based "Turns Me On," produced by Organized Noize and featuring Sleepy Brown; "Tangerine," featuring T.I. with tambourines and guitars; and the Lil Jon-produced "Hustle Blood," which Big Boi describes as a track "for the ladies." The song features Jamie Foxx.

Ten days after the release of his album, Big Boi joins the lineup at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago's Union Park during the July 16-18 weekend. Big Boi has also revealed that an Outkast album will be released after "Sir Lucious."

"More than a decade ago, my high school English teacher illustrated the word "juxtaposition" by showing my class a picture of Martha Stewart and Busta Rhymes together at the MTV Awards. But 13 years, a name drop by Jay-Z, and a jail stint later, Martha's hip-hop credentials are kind of legit.

Still, it's always a bit awkward when she converses with MCs, as we saw today when she interviewed and grilled lobster with Big Boi on "The Martha Stewart Show".

Sir Lucious Left Foot dubbed her Lady Martha Macaroni "'cause you got that cheese" and Big Boi's mom even makes a cameo. Tweeting about the TV appearance earlier today, Big Boi wrote: "Just finished grilling Lobster with Martha Stewart and my Mama. G Shit." So there. Watch a clip of the interview here.

If Big Boi's forthcoming album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty wasn't coming out July 6, he would not have appeared on "The Martha Stewart Show". But it is, so he did. And now your mom is asking you about "Shutterbugg". Everybody wins."

There's literally three days before Big Boi's long-in-the-works solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, drops via Def Jam. With his output as half of OutKast, not to mention numerous guest verses and solo tracks, the guy's had a long career. Makes perfect sense, then, that he's teamed up with DJ X-Rated and DJ Esco to compile a retrospective mixtape.

You can grab Mix Tape for Dummies: Guide to Global Greatness over at Big Boi's site right now. The hour-long tape covers the breadth of his career, from early cuts with OutKast to a few songs he contributed guest verses to and Sir Lucious Left Foot single "Shutterbugg". The whole affair's mixed together, and it should make a perfect soundtrack for any Fourth of July barbecues you plan to attend over the weekend.

This is my favorite album of the year! I LOVE BIG BOI!

Big Boi has been everywhere these days, but not in his role as half of Outkast. Instead the Atlanta singer/rapper, born Antwan Patton, has been earning attention as big as his moniker lately for another of his projects: his first solo album, "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty." We managed to catch up with Big Boi while in New York promoting the album on what he joked was his Grammy hustle. For the latest installment of our Tastemakers video series, he brought along DJ Cutmaster Swift ad he himself threw down a 3-song set of "Left Foot" tunes full of freestyling, whip and lasso his mic cord moves and ad-hoc photo snapping with our neighbors, the cast of MTV's "The Hills."

When "Sir Lucious Left Foot" was finally released in July after lots of hard work, delay and label drama, it debuted in the top five of several Billboard charts, including a No. 2 start on the Tastemakers Albums tally where it remained in the top 20 for seven straight weeks. To Big Boi, the album was well worth the wait.

"It's all about positive vibrations and good vibrations," he explained. "I worked on it for a long time, and the fans were dying to hear it so have it out and accessible to the fans is what it's about."

The signature beats of producer Scott Storch, one of Forbes magazine's "Hip Hop Cash Kings," were laid out as the foundation for the first single, "Shutterbug," when Storch reached out with the track made especially for Big Boi.

"[Storch] played the beat at the loudest volume I've ever heard a record played at in my life," Big Boy remembers. "I was deaf for about three minutes."

The rapper then took it back to Atlanta, looped in his band, "put layers of bunk on it" and the rest is "Shutterbug" history. While the next single isn't quite decided yet -- he's leaning toward "Tangerine" and "Hustle Blood" -- Big Boi continues to add fuel to the promotional fire, gearing up to release a music video for nearly every track on the album. He's also sharing his nearly two-decades of experience in the form of mentoring Vonnegutt, an upcoming electro/hip-hop group out of Marietta, GA, who were featured on the album's second official single, "Follow Us."

The scratch-happy banger, "You Ain't No DJ" with up and coming Alabama rapper Yelawolf, was yet another collaboration that came about organically. "He's a real MC," Big Boy says. "I'm a fan of true lyricists and he's definitely one of the great ones that's coming up right now."

Big Boi played coy, however, when we mentioned the upcoming solo album by Outkast partner Andre 3000, simply saying that everything is going according to plan, adding that pair will swap spots at the board adding production credits to each other's albums before joining forces for another Outkast effort. The duo's last collaboration, 2003's double album "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" topped the Billboard 200 album chart, and singles "The Way You Move" (Big Boi) and "Hey Ya!" (Andre 3000) reached No. 1 on the Hot 100.

"Everything is top secret," Big Boy says of Andre 3000's album. "Dre said mum's the word until we get close to letting ya'll know what's really going on. Can't give you a timeframe, but we are workin'."

In the meantime, he focusing on the "Lucious Left Foot" world tour. He'll be heading to Europe and Australia before hitting the west coast. "We're pretty much booked up until January. The touring thing is what I'm doing right now, just really spreading the word on the album and giving the fans a live taste of what's to come.

"I've been on my left foot, on the good foot, rockin' my hips everynight. You know, just havin' fun."

Big Boi arrested in Miami on drug charges

OutKast member and hip-hop artist Big Boi was arrested in Miami on Sunday for possession of drugs, according to the Miami-Dade Corrections website.

The rapper, whose real name is Antwan Andre Patton, 36, but performs under the name Big Boi, was charged with three counts of possession of Ecstasy, Viagra and MDMA, an ingredient in Ecstasy. Patton did not have a prescription for the Viagra he carried. He faces a fourth count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The website says Big Boi was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail at around 1:30 p.m. He was released on a $16,000 bond. Patton was apparently arrested as he disembarked from a cruise ship at the Port Miami, TMZ is reporting. A Customs drug sniffing dog alerted an officer to Patton.

Big Boi is best known as half of the groundbreaking rap duo OutKast, which includes Andre 3000. The Atlanta-based group won six Grammys and churned out six platinum-plus albums, including their "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," which sold over 10 million copies.

Patton made his solo debut last year.
