September 22. When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie adopted Ethiopian-born Zahara, most African Americans were very supportive of the couple. But now a statement by Brad Pitt has members of the community questioning their initial response. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that in the October issue of Esquire Magazine, Brad Pitt makes racially insensitive comments about his adopted daughter Zahara.

In what was supposed to be an endorsement of Carol's Daughter's popular hair care line, Brad Pitt was quoted as saying that he has "trouble" with baby Zahara's "black-person hair."

Brad Pitt the RACIST??...maybe a closet one?

hu? i don't get it. the problem is that he said "black-person-hair" instead "of curly black hair" or what?
i mean it IS typical that afro-americans DO have that kind of hair, that isn't a prejudice or a negative image related to race, so where is the problem?
what did he mean with trouble? i guess like .. trouble combing it?

Well, a black persons hair is a bit more difficult to manage, right? That's what most of my black female friends have told me. YES, we talk about hair!

Well I am black....and my hair isn't hard to managed!

And yes he did mention "trouble" which will raise eyebrows...

The problem is in the English syntax. For example, most "African-Americans" are loathe to be called "Colored person" (that is a "derogatory", 1950's term), but they prefer, instead, "Person of Color". I think Mr. Pitt will receive a pass on this. If, say, Trent Lott had said this, his career as Senate Majority Leader would be over. Oh, wait...

Ummm there are entire haircare lines devoted to exclusively to African American's because there hair is typically diffent then that of caucausians. I really don't see what the big deal is. I mean the man is raising an African girl and spent the past year of his life trying to help starving african kids I highly doubt he has anything against black people.

it may sound racist, but i think he just meant the hair was hard to manage. cuz my hair is nappy (i'm azn), in the past, several black females have ran their hand thru my hair, and all of them have said "hey, u have black people hair". since it was so tough/nappy, i couldnt ever do anything with it, gel wouldnt even work, so for years now i buzz my hair.

I'm always surprised that anyone cares what Brad Pitts thinks or says.

Get a life. Here in Birmingham, a two year old African American child was killed in his bed by a drive-by shooting. If you want to get indignant, send a letter to the mayor and ask why in a city with majority Black residents (70%) , a majority Black city council, Black mayor, and Black chief of police, why is the murder rate (predominantly Black deaths) one of the highest in the USA and why do they value Black lives so cheaply? Why haven't the civil rights leaders demonstrated outside city hall to raise police pay, hire more policemen and stop the murders which are at a rate of 82 in 230,000 redidents? Almost every one of the dead are Black. Get indignant about that!

Gotta agree with ya!!

It never fails to amaze me how worked up people can get over little things and then ignore real problems, like Homoerectus said.

I must agree Birmingham is now a mostly black crime-ridden city. I grew up in Hoover, but I was always in Birmingham proper when as teen to get the hell away from those suburban lunatics. I heard about Bernard "The Retard" Kincaid and his incompetent ass from the stories that come over the Associated Press wire here in Atlanta. From what I see Kincaid is the problem, NOT the city council because they want to help the pay the city police and fire fighters. It is a damn shame the crime rate there is out of the roof again like it was back in the 1990's. I was very sadden by that story about that 2-year-old's murder by a stray bullet. Birmingham is such a nice place, but it has some screwed up leadership.

I would have to agree with this, I personally have never been to birminham but my grandomther has told me stories. I have had many family members leave alabama to come to LA and what not. That really doesnt surpise me that the majority of black getting killed are done by other blacks. We as a race to come together in unity and try and stick together.

That is SO not a big deal. It doesn't really sound racist at all, it just sounds like he didn't know any other way to say his daughter's hair was different than what he was used to. Yeah, it's the way our (black people) hair is, no racism or prejudice about it.
