I don't know if there was already a thread for this but:

Which do you prefer?

For me, Buffy was better than Angel. However, I never watched Angel completely, it just couldn't hold my attention. I like the cast of Buffy more too.

Glory for best villian.

I'd say overall Buffy was a better show. Seasons 1 - 5 are great, 5 being my favorite. 6 & 7 not so much in my opinion.

Seasons 3 & 4 of Angel are definitely the strongest of the series. Gave me something to watch while Buffy was boring me.

I love both shows though, have all the seasons on dvd.

I agree completely.

Buffy. Hands down. The end. No competition. Buffy had some rocky points but it was incredibly original and important. From the way it revolutionized televised dialogue to it's absolutely brilliantly nuanced portrayal of typical highschool conflict in a contextualized and entertaining way it is head and shoulders above. There are certain episodes ("Dopplegangland" "The Zeppo" "Hush" "The Body" "Once More With Feeling" just off the top of my head) that were monumental moments of television, that forever belong to the cannon of iconic/great television achievements. It's a show that helped lend credence not just to the concept of an insightful and praiseworthy sci-fi drama but also proving a strong female character could anchor and action show. It laid the groundwork for the critical attention later Fantasy/Sci-fi shows would receive. The lack of award recognition that Buffy received will forever be a glaring mark on the history of the Emmys.

Angel was fun. But never was able to reach the heights of symbolism, character development, or longform storytelling that Buffy did. IT was always more like Buffy's campy fun cousin.

Definitely Buffy for me! Willow, Glory and Angel for best villains!

Was it ever explained why the first evil ressurected Angel?

I completely agree with this. I loved Angel, honestly, I did. But Buffy always had my heart. I don't know, with Angel it just felt that his End-of-the-World situations weren't quite as End-of-the-Worldey as Buffy's were. When I watched both shows, I just always felt that Buffy had the more impact. For example, seeing Willow go Dark Phoenix on everyone's ass after Tara died (ugh, that killed me inside) captivated much more than watching Cordelia/Jasmine turn Angel's world upside down. I will say, though that I loved Angel towards the end, when Fred died and Illyria took her place. And Spike...come on, son.

Buffy is a trillion times better than Angel. However, when Cordelia was still a member of the Scoobies was the Golden days of Buffy. Angel was only good when it was just Cordelia, Doyle, and himself.

Buffy will always be my favorite show of all time lol. I was never a fan of it until season 3. Then I became hooked lol.

Of the two hands down Buffy. Angel simply could not catch my attention.

Also, Buffy had better characters. And along with everyone else, I believe Glory is the best Villain of the franchise and Season 5 is the BEST season. Although season 6 and Willow's temper-tantrum was a close 2nd.

But I think Angel has one of the best theme songs of any show. idk...I like the smooth sax.

did you know, ben is glory?

BUFFY! I enjoyed all of the seasons. Plus, I love Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Ok, so clearly a lot of people agree that Buffy is the better show.

Glory also seems to be the favorite villain of the series. I really can't argue with that because you really can't do any better than a God.

It really annoyed me that the villains of season 6 were "The Trio". Seriously?? How the hell do you follow a God with a group of comic book nerds? That's just insulting.

Also, the character development of Angel really wasn't that great. Especially since they were just bringing in a new random character every season.

I'm gonna have to go against the grain and say that Angel was better. For those who say that Buffy had the better characterization - what about Cordy, Wes, and Fred? That was amazing character growth! Heck, I think they got into Faith's head a little better in Angel also.

And Buffy had the evil trio - come on...

This is all meant in good fun though, I loved both series.

I always watched Buffy around Buffy. I never liked the main character - she's like a piece of soggy toast with a stake. The Scoobies, the villains, and the weird monsters of the week were the main attraction for me.

With Angel, I actually liked Angel. I mean, he was a little sad & fussy too, but it wasn't quite as annoying. Also, I think David Boreanez is a better actor than Sarah Michelle Gellar. AND on top of all that, you had the great supporting characters and weirdness.
