OK, I got around to putting a profile up on gay.com. I got an e-mail already, but it seems so generic, I wonder if it's a scam or something? He didn't really mention anything about my profile, so I'm just wondering if it's real or not??? Here's what the message said:

Hey,
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica]
I saw your ad on here and wanted to say Hi. You sound
out of this world, is everything you say true? I must
ask, only cause I've been fooled before on these kind
of sites, ya know.

Do you like going out? Like maybe to nice fancy
restaurants? Please tell me that you're someone who
like sushi.. I can never find people to accompany me
to sushi bars.

I would really like to take you out some time...I love
trying out new places.

I love the show thats coming on right now, It's a new
episode....Here's my email, write me sometime <email deleted>

Talk to you soon, hugs <name deleted>

Is that a typical response? And what the hell show is he talking about???

Sorry,I'm just really new to all this!

Yup, it's extremely generic, but that doesn't have to mean it's a scam. It's probably someone who sends these messages all the time to people that catch his eye. He doesn't get a gold star for creativity, but it's probably a real person. Just reply and see what happens :)

About gay.com, do I have to pay a fee for this site to actually be useful? As a free user, am I even able to do anything?

Hey, thanks Dutchie!

The weird thing is, he didn't include a link to his profile, so I know absolutely nothing about him.

Can people figure out your e-mail address from your username and just send random e-mails? That's kinda what I'm wondering.

I don't have a public photo up, so I don't expect the world, but I would like to know something about him other than Sushi! :-)

I am on another site like gay.com, I am on gay411.com. I have met a few nice people from this site. What do you have to lose send him an e-mail and take it from there. You could ask him what show he is talking about. From my experience it is easy to figure out the weirdos and fakes pretty early on.

Hey Lube:

I will be very interested to learn more about your reaction to gay.com. I continue to have real mixed feelings about it; especially in regard to what your asking. My experience has been that guys seem to talk a good line until it acutally comes time to meet. Of the last four guys who said they were going to meet in various settings; they were all no shows.

Well that's good to know, Elwood.

They could if your username is the same as your e-mail address and you have a Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail account. Otherwise, I don't think one can get your address unless you reply to them. I'm by no means an expert user, so I might be wrong about this.

I agree with Elwood - just send him a message and see what happens. The ones who are only interested in cockpics will usually ask within the first two or three e-mails. No point in wasting time, right? ;)

Ouch. They sound like assholes. No one should do that to you. (*8*)

Did you have a photo up, rr? Did you chat?

^ I had chatted quite extensively with them online. It seems some will talk a line online, but when it comes to meeting in the flesh(so to speak) that is another thing. In terms of having pics on gay.com.(I am not into that)

I'm on there, and I haven't paid a cent. You can post a profile with pictures, and you can participate in some of the chat rooms. You can't do things like look at other people's "adult" pics or put them on your buddies list or any of that kind of stuff.

I only go in the chatrooms when I'm up for a quick cyber-wank, not when I actually want to meet somebody (which is never anyway).

It's odd - I was offered free premium a while ago. It still works.

Must be 'cause I'm on the UK&Ireland site...

Just chatted with someone else there... now feeling weird... and very naive.

I am curious as to why?

Silly me: I believed his profile! :grrr:

No biggie. I'll get over it.

Better my skepticism/cynicism starts now, before I really got in trouble somewhere.

except here on JUB of course.

Yeah, I think I'm spoiled by the great people here.

The more I think about it, it really wasn't all that weird what happened. It just ended kind of suddenly and threw me for a loop. I'm not expecting anything further, but if he contacts me, well, I'll be more on the defensive this time. Always a good thing. I can be so trusting sometimes.
