Define "Straight-acting"

I am tired, no fucking tired about this obsition if some guy is gay acting or straight acting its almost like we have to present ourselvese in a certain light But you are going to love this we are are diffrent and therefore have different personalitis, as for me what I am in no act its me all me a persona of what I am. Just a gay man tryng to fit in this world no more and no less and if you have problem with that .....I care so deal with it.

>>>I disagree -- it's acting all right.

Really? So I'm living a lie? Should I work on raising the timbre of my voice? Maybe stop "stomping around" and get a bit lighter in my loafers? Perhaps get a lisp going? That's apparently what I REALLY am, and my deep voice and klutzy walk are all affectations? Nice to know. I'll get right on it - I certainly wouldn't want to keep denying my true self.

>>>dude.. dont ever take what lex says seriously cuz he can always fall back on sarcasm

Qui? Moi? Jamais!

...THAT gay enough? ;)

Lex

The term "straight acting" is used by losers who think that being stragiht is better than being gay and if they at least can PASS for straight it means they're not as low as the gay guys they dislike for not being able to hide their feminine side.

O"

Totally agree, people on this board who descibe themselves as staight acting, always seem to have major issues with being gay later in the post.

Just be yourself, whatever that may be be, sometimes I like to camp it up and play around, especially when out, sometimes I just sit in the corner, depends on my mood.

Perhaps it is the "acting" part that is the problem...I just act like me..and somehow I became straight acting..because I could give a fuck about musicals...or the fact that I LOVE loud V8 musclecars.. yet to some that makes me str8? or confused (others)

Not your most profound work, but a pure delight to see you about just the same. I've missed you, my dear.

It's when they invite a gay dude to play a straight dude in a play but then the audience is not convinced and starts booing and the guy runs off stage crying...

Right?

Ha ha, yeah, really.

Seriously, the problem is that it usually comes off as fake.

Imagine Liberace suddenly waking up one day and trying to act str8. *guffaw*

I mean, it just doesn't work.

I disagree on the "acting" = "pretense". For me it's more behaviour, as lex said.

Whether you behave in a masculine or feminine way, it is just the way you learned to walk/talk/etc during your lifetime. It's just the way we are.

You can't say it's wrong for gay men to be masculine. Masculine behaving gay men don't suddenly swish and giggle when they find themselves in privacy any more than femmes lower their voice and scratch their balls while guzzling beer and watching sports when they're alone (allowing for some exceptions of people who probably do put an act on - but should we generalize? Are there that many good actors who can pull that kind of façade off? ).

If you're talking about "straight acting" as in "in the closet" that's a different ball game, but I think there's a difference between being in the closet and straight acting. Most of those who have suceeded in staying in the closet are probably straight acting, true, but I'm sure there are many out gays who are also straight-acting. At least i don't believe that all people who come out change the way they walk and talk to "gay acting" or "gay behaving" whatever that may be. Chances are a masculine gay man who comes out will stay masculine.

Anyway, if you don't agree, you can start by defining "gay acting" for me and telling me how I should behave so I can fit in to the club (although using words like "façade" probably put me nearer to entering the club than I'd expect). Because it sounds as if some people are saying that "being yourself", if you're gay, means acting feminine.
