Every time I turn around, there's a new diet pill on the market promising to take off that fat. I doubt if any of them really work if you don't go on a severe diet and spend 14 hours per day in the gym, but someone is making a fortune off them.

Unfortunately, they're not aimed at people who really need help losing weight. They prey on those people who need to look good in a bikini next Summer.

Very sad indeed.

No we don't need more diet pills. We need some of these big fatsos to get up off their cottage cheese asses and walk, just a little bit. Try some push aways from the buffet table instead of eating your third helping of cheese cake. Try a salad once in a while instead of the Big Mac. I'm sick of people being so god damned pathetic and unable to control themselves and looking for a quick fix. Health and fitness are lifelong endeavors. Not something to be accomplished so you can look good in a bikini! Sorry for the rant, I feel better now.

Sad, isn't it?
And these pill-pushers will make their money, pull up stakes, and move on to their next scam.
jackoroe, call your post a rant, if you will; but every word is the truth: and that's even sadder!
When will the horizontally-challenged ever learn?
D I E T & E X E R C I S E !

People don't wanna hear its going to take month, maybe years, to lose the weight they need to lose. They want to lose it NOW. Even people who only need to lose a few pounds want to lose it now and not have to go work out and watch what they eat....so what is easier than a pill?

I agree people don't take care of their bodies but the bigger problem (imho) is that people don't have healthy self-images...(trust me..i know first hand). It always amazes me how people who look GREAT are saying shit like "oh i need to work out more" or "I need to lose 20lbs"

Be comfortable, happy and healthy with who you are and these companies won't have anyone to prey on!

TrimSpa baby! No, we don't need any more diet pills. You can't learn to eat healthy by popping pills. Those advertisements claim you can eat what you want as long as you take a pill every few hours. That's just a load of bull. People need to learn to eat healthy and increase activity. Otherwise, you'll wind up like Anna Nicole Smith.

Do you want to spend the rest of your life eating only salad? If you have never been fat you have no idea what it is like and what it takes to lose weight. I agree, pull away from the buffets and fast food. That doesn't stop the uncontrolable cravings for that type of food. Its like a drug.

Actually, we do need a really good diet pill. One that would promote real weight loss and have few side effects.

There is a huge health crisis from the effects of obesity - Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease to name a few. Not to mention Back Pain, Degenerative Joint Disease, Depression, Anxiety, etc.

As for just getting off their butts and losing the weight, well many have tried. They lose a few pounds and then later gain it back again. Meanwhile their blood sugars are high and their blood pressure is having an effect on their heart. What is needed is a real solution and if its a pill then I say fine. They can always be supervised on it.

For now though, there is no good diet pill. They either are stimulants or they have intolerable gastrointestinal side effects with little weight loss to show for it. We still need a breakthrough drug.

No we dont need any more diet pills; the best diet pill of them all was taken off the shelves. MetaboLife really worked wonders. Now I have to excersise.

Well according to a dietician at my uni, one can eat whatever they choose, it just have to be in proportion. I'm trying to lose weight right now and I attempt to wake up everyday to exercise. She says that the diet pills are always a combination of the same 5 ingredients which can actually be harmful rather than helpful.

This big fatso walks a couple of miles every day.

Try some push aways from the buffet table instead of eating your third helping of cheese cake. Try a salad once in a while instead of the Big Mac.

Try [edited so the mods will not kill me]. Tell a drug addict to just inject water instead of heroin. Tell a smoker to just light a campfire instead of a cigarette. Tell an alcoholic to just drink soda. Tell a clinically depressed person to just think happy thoughts instead of taking an ant-depressant.

Doable, but not as easy as you make it out to be.

Sorry for the rant, I feel better now.

I'm glad you do. :=D: for you.

After the whole Fen-phen fiasco, I think it became clear that diet pills weren't just things that may or may not work, might speed you out and have some minor side effects. They gained the potential to seriously damage one's health. Just because you can buy a lot of these pills over the counter now days, doesn't make them particularly safe.

God I am so SICK of the "just eat less you fat pig" argument people on here use.
Not EVERYONE is fat because they eat too much or whatever. A guy I grew up with,
never weighed more than 110LBS at 5'11", he was a bone. he rarely exercised, ate
three to 4 times what I ate in a day (and it was mostly crap like McD's). all because
he had a Hyper motabulism. I on the otherhand as a kid ate roughly 1700 calories a
day, ran around or road my bike (essentially exercise) and have never weighed less
that 200LBS I was 6' tall. I RARELY eat fast food (i'm talking like maybe 3 times a
year) average around 1200 calories a day and have been for years. I do walk every
day but not far (a lot of short walks) because I have a really fucked up spine. I am
now 245LBS at 5'8". TELL ME HOW THAT IS BECAUSE I EAT TOO MUCH FUCKING
FOOD?!?!?!?!?!?!? and no I have never tried Diet pills as there is too much of a
chance of them interfereing with the drugs I'm already on for other crap.

end of rant.

Do you want to spend the rest of your life eating only salad? If you have never been fat you have no idea what it is like and what it takes to lose weight.

Please note what I said in my original post.

There are definitely people who need help losing weight, but all these drugs are aimed at vain people who are a kilo or two overweight and want to look good on the beach.

Besides, none of those pills work without an accompanying diet and vigorous exercise. All they are doing is pumping more chemicals into their bodies.

For the people who really do want to (and need to) lose serious weight, I'd be willing to bet that those drugs wouldn't even work for them.
