Here we go again. :(

Every so often, I've noticed, JUB goes into cycles of drama. We seem to be approaching high cycle right now. There are those, it seems, who like to take the forum rules to the nth degree and see how far they can push the envelope and see how many people they can annoy. On the other hand, there are individuals who appear to take great glee in chastising others for violating their personal interpretation of what is de rigeur on this forum.

With so many registered members, I must say that I think the owners and the mods, for the most part, do a marvelous job of keeping this medium fun, entertaining, and upbeat without it turning into a chaotic free-for-all. Unfortunately, every so often, the drama level here increases to the point where I have to think twice before hitting the "submit" button for fear that my spontaneous wit may be misinterpreted as something other than it was intended. Let's face it -- even though this is a semi-anonymous on-line message medium, no one likes to be scolded!

I realize that a tiny few here are just plain downright rude. Others have no sense of humor at all. I'd say that the vast majority of the membership lies somewhere between those two extremes. In a forum this large, the phrase "Can't we all just get along?" is simply not going to happen. We are too diverse a community. It personally disturbs me when I see that diversity being squelched by a thoughtless remark, the selfish need to have the last word, or by someone hellbent for leather on absolute enforcement of the rules with no room for interpretation, often times because they do not care for a particular individual.

My television remote control allows me the opportunity to change channels if I do not wish to view a particular program. I also frequently use the "mute" button during annoying commercials. Just the same on JUB, if I do not care for the subject of a particular thread, I move on to the next one. JUB also comes with it's own "mute" button -- it's called the "ignore" option.

As long as there isn't anything illegal, homophobic, or hurtful/prejudicial being posted, as far as I'm concerned, we needn't take this place so damned seriously. Yes, there are serious topics posted here, interspersed with humorous ones, but no one should feel like they are being scrutinized every time they see a certain person's green light on and hightail it off the board. (I've done this myself, I'm sorry to say.)

Sooooo.....before pouncing on someone because you think they are too serious, rude, silly -- whatever -- consider first the words of Herbert Spencer:
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which can not fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance -- that principle is contempt prior to investigation."

I thrive on spontaneous humor -- not drama. However, once in a while, I need to pull up my bootstraps and put on my "serious" costume. Tonight is one of those nights. I'll be going to bed now. Good night.

I hate drama. Most of my friends seem to seek it out so I hear about it without having to deal with it too directly. It's annoying most of the time, but occasionally amusing.

Drama is best kept as a form of entertainment. I try to avoid it in real life. It's just too much trouble.

I have enough drama in my real life, so I avoid as much drama as I can on the internet.

*blasts My Humps from his ghetto blaster*

I'ma start some drama,
You don't want no drama,
No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama

amen

I dont know why we cant just have light hearted fun, without it turning into a capital offense

I love Hot topics because it feels like gay club chatter

Some guys are clustered being serious... some are over to the side being silly

we all stop and say hello as we pass by and check in and out of various groups conversations.

Circulate circulate

theres something for everyone at the clubs and there usually is in Hot topics... then someone decides to pull a Julia Sugarbaker and we all go scurrying off because it stops being fun

a bar stool sails through the air and we all talk about it for a week

whats the rocket science ?

its an online gay club

thanks for the fun RL !!!

Drama creates Traffic.

What I mean by this is if this board was just everyone being all nicey nice to each other, it would be boring very fast, and we'd all find somewhere else to post.

JUB is what it is, as I seem to say a lot, because it's a community that seems to have managed to create itself.

when someone has become such a nuisence that nobody else is having fun, they have to go. They get let back sometimes, and I'll never understand why that is, but they do, and it just means more drama, more traffic and more stuff to read and post.

If I want nice all the time, I'll go visit my Aunt Tessie.

I prefer comedy myself-and it ain't that easy!
I confess I've done drama myself, not worth it.Just deal with everybody with courtesy and respect-and if you don't like someone,or someone doesn't like you, than never the train shall meet-use the ignore option,or just use sensible self-restraint.

There have been threads I made that were meant as a 'parody' or just a joke, that completely turned into something people were pissed off about, because people sometimes either don't see the humor, or I'm not making it obvious enough that it's a joke.

I did one of these threads once a few months ago. It was more an experiment than anything. The 'Topic' was catchy, but the post was pure nonsense.

According to the responses which followed, most people responded to the 'Topic' rather than the post. If I recall, our Mel (Zeremonie) was the only one who recognized the thread for what it was and responded in kind and even admitted that 'I had got her'. She followed up her post with several smilies. The rest of the posters thought I was serious and responded seriously.

Part of the problem, I think, is that people don't always 'listen' and just start talking.

One thing I have noticed, though, is the people who react the most are those who can 'dish it out' but 'can't take it'.

I do my share of joking and teasing in Jub, but anyone who reads my posts knows that I joke and tease about myself almost as much.

On the other hand, I've had very few 'accomplishment' in my life. Things of which I'm very proud. One of those accomplishments is occuring in Jub at this very moment, yet I hesitate to even talk about it in case people think I'm bragging all over the place about it and I'm being dramatic and trying to get the spotlight aimed at me. For that reason, I keep my accomplishments to myself for the most part and content myself knowing that I have made a difference in a lot of people's lives.

That, I think, is the crux of the matter. Are an individual's posts making a difference in other people's lives or in their own?

Drama and controversy are two things I try very hard to avoid. I don't like to make waves. If I am dramatic, it's not intended to cause chaos on this board.

Drama creates Traffic.
Indeed it does. It also causes traffic jams on occasion. (Hmmmm....I wondered why the board crashed earlier today. ;) )

Or, more accurately, we'd all start being less nice to the nicey-niceys in order to create the drama that causes more traffic.

We are a village called JUB.

As I said earlier, this can go both ways. It doesn't necessarily have to be the "rude" posters -- it can also be individuals obsessed with tattling to the mods, as well as individuals expressing a desire to have this board turned into a police state. None of it is good for the health of this community.

Tell Tessie I said . (Not :p )
[see.....I can play nice, too]

well, of course you're totally right.

I once had a poster here send me some PM where they complained loudly that I didn't like them. When I told her to leave me the fuck alone, they went and moaned to anyone who would listen, creating not only work and trouble for people who have better things to do, but just being a pain in my ass.

and not the good kind.

Anyway. It's all over and I'm on a few more ignore lists, no harm done.

But yeah.. the only people who really annoy me are the ones who seem to think they run JUB.. and really.. the members here are the ones who kinda decide what kind of place it'll be.

I agree

its quite easy to disagree without being rude and harrassing

Well like you posted...ADULT BULLY SUCK!:grrr:

I found it interesting that bullies exhibit .....ARROGANCE, NARCISSISM, Self-assuredness and an unerring belief in their RIGHTNESS & Infallibility!;)

And I'm sure your Aunt Tessie looks forward to those visits as well...
The heard that the sounds of passing motorcylces sends her into spasms of joy...
