  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you usually buy used/second-hand stuffs?

I have found some great stuff second hand.

I like thrift and second-hand used clothing stores. because you can usually find neat and ecclectic clothing at cheap prices.

I don't mind second-hand stuff. With vintage clothes and stuff, I like to think about what experiences the previous owner might have had.

I usually buy my work clothes at second hand stores. My job is pretty dirty and rough on clothing so I cannot see spending too much on them. I will buy second hand furniture too if it is a little unusual and needs work. I like working with wood......

I enjoy going "Thrifting" for furniture, lamps, 'n odds 'n ends ..... It is amazing the bargains that one can find ... I once found a vase for $9.95 and found it to be worth $780.00 !

craigslist ftw!
all my new furniture is gonna be baught on craigslist... we already have some nice stuff picked out for the move

I've never bought, and probably wouldn't buy, used clothing. I know there are pre-owned couture shops, and I would have no problem purchasing something like that, but I am not interested in couture clothing so that rules that out.

I have purchased used furniture before. A few years ago I found a shop in Atlanta that sold ultra high end previously owned furnishings. I purchased a leather Barcelona day bed and 2 matching Barcelona chairs & foot stools for $3600.00. They were flawless and brand new they would have cost around $14,000.00. That was the deal of the century. They had marked the items down about 5 times and I just happened in at the right time. I had always wanted a Barcelona daybed but I would never have spent $7-8000.00 they cost new. The chairs alone are $2500.00 new. Sadly, the shop closed up a year or so ago and I have not found anything nearly as good as it since.

I also bought a very expensive leather executive chair that sells for $950.00 new. I paid $200.00.

I'll buy used, thrift, and auctioned furniture and household items, and have even dumpster dived and picked up a few things on the curb (yes...someone else's trash). Many items in my home are previously loved. A little soap and water, stain, polyurethane, reupholstering, etc...has turned some of these items into my favorite pieces.

I won't buy/wear used clothing of any kind...I think my aversion to it stems from my childhood...always wearing hand-me-downs and yard sale clothes. I always wanted new clothes when I was young and when I started earning my own money I (subconsciously...well, maybe it was partly conscious) vowed never to wear used items again.

most of my books are used, and i have a couple miscellaneous furniture pieces in the apartment that are too

I've been known to shop in consignment stores. I find amazing deals on clothing that has been worn once or twice - if at all.

I buy a lot of my clothes at consignment stores. I also buy too many belts there.

one of my favorite haunts is a used-hotel furniture store. While I avoid the matresses and bedding because I know what people do in hotel rooms (hell, I know what I've done in some of them!), I scored an amazing iron and glass coffee table from a local, high-end hotel. it's one of those "go there regularly" places and can be a total miss or a major hit!

:-({|= :-({|=

It is near impossible for me to go into a second hand store. There is always a sense or an odor I pick up and I cannot cope with that.

It all stems from my childhood, and I dout if itwill every change.

Small antique stores I can deal with and enjoy, like those in England, but anything larger, and the chances of my staying in that said enviornment - maybe 10 minutes maximum.

I shall go into a second store to donate, but will always leave as soon as possible.

!oops! :help:

And the best place in North America to shop at a thrift type store is VALUE VILLAGE, known also as SAVERS in most of the USA.

Are you kidding me? I can't imagine a world without flea-markets!

One man's trash, is another man's treasure! (!)

I love going to yard sales and garage sales... those thrift stores.. all of it.. its kinda fun.. like a treasure hunt... most of the time I don't find anything interesting but a few times i've come out with stuff thats just awesome... like a cookie monster cookie jar....

i love the feel and smell of old hardbounds. i can't resist old pottery and huge plates since i do pottery myself. i vowed never to buy second hand clothes but when i saw really old but reasonably priced denims, i went for them. here's one thing i can't imagine buying second-hand: shoes!
