For the first Earth Day 1970, all classes at my school, Northside Junior High, were cancelled after lunch. Yippee!

The next day, my science teacher reminded class that a cleaner environment is a laudable goal, but nuclear weapons overshadow all good intensions.

The nuclear threat makes for a very curious video game series that seems to be making itself present all over the online world.

"Thumbs Up" carries a much deeper meaning - but is it believable?

I'm more concerned about the rhetoric that surrounds ecology and environmentalism versus the realitty.

It seems like there's a lot of blather about young people supposedly caring more than older ones, yet in my experience, recycling and conservationism is no more prevalent in the young than in the old. It's just a talking point intergenerationally, just a pubic image instead of real.

And all of it falls flat when the very same people seem to be drinking countless bottles of water instead of from the very safe tap.

Since 1970 I've lived as others around me live, as conveniently and comfortably as my income allows.

Now here's the real shocker, since 2015 the Washington State legislature has granted millions of dollars for school districts to enact a "Climate Science Workshop" schedule of activities to promote Earth-friendly awareness and practices among today's school students.

Imagine the impact of more than eight years of teachers driving, and students bussing, to Washington State lakes, rivers, state parks, wilderness areas, museums, research labs and government offices.

Should I laugh - or just cry?
