I loved Alanis Morisette, Marilyn Manson's earlier stuff, Sarah McLachlan, Reba McEntire . . . pretty much a variety of artists from different genres :P

The most important artists of the 90's are Nirvana and Black Box. With Smells Like Teen Spirit and Ride On Time, you've got everything you need.

pepsilover . . . the spice girls . . . i think that just killed this thread

I love 90's music!

Puff Daddy, Will Smith, Our Lady Peace, Ace of Base, Spice Girls, Real McCoy, 2 Unlimited, Robin S, La Bouche, Third Eye Blind, Foo Fighters, Savage Garden, Boyz II Men, Coolio, Aqua, Fun factory

are some of my favorites, lol

and the list goes on and on and on

Madonna put out the 3 greatest albums of her career in the 90s -- "Erotica," "Bedtime Stories" and "Ray of Light."

Janet Jackson also put out the two greatest albums of her career in the 90s -- "janet" in 1993 and "The Velvet Rope" in 1997.

While we're on the subject of divas -- Mariah Carey put out her first album in 1990, and the rest is history. I must admit that I like a lot of her early-to-mid-90s stuff, though I think she grew increasingly bland and uninspiring after the release of 1997's "Butterfly."

On the alt-rock front -- Garbage, Tori Amos, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt and Nirvana stand out as my favorite musical acts that rose to prominence in the 90s.

On the dance music front, early 90s house has never been paralleled -- Lords of Acid, Black Box, C&C Music Factory, Rozalla, Cece Peniston, Robin S, and many others kept the discos hopping like never before.

I'm sure I'm overlooking a lot, but those are the standouts of the 90s for me.

ace of base all that she wants was an incredible song lol! n dont try n act like u dont like the spice girls...they pulled off some pretty sick tunes! like "spice up your life" lol....im glad to see ppl mentioning nsync, lauryn hill, n alanis....but what about the the BACKSTREET BOYS ppl??? songs like "all i have to give" n "get down" were just awesome

p.s. black box ride on time was not really 90's as twas released 1988/89....but wateva it was a funny song...

Soundgarden. Jeff Buckley (Grace is one of the best albums ever). Guns N' Roses. System Of A Down. Alice In Chains. Marilyn Manson (Antichrist era)...

Yeah, I know Ride on Time was first released in 1989, but no less than Bernard Sumner of New Order declared that the 90's started when Ride topped the British charts for something like 6 weeks. Then the track blew up all over the world.

Besides being a great song, it's an important track. Sampling, DJ-based bands, lawsuits: so much of what the 90's was about is right there. It kicked off the decade (with Smells Like Teen Spirit) the way Love Will Tear Us Apart kicked off the 80's.

Plus, it makes no sense whatsoever because the guys who put it together didn't speak much English. I mean, ride on time? What does that mean?

Are the 90's still alive?

Britney's album is selling well and the Backstreet Boys have returned aswell as the Spice Girls.

Have the world's music tastes returned back to bubblegum pop?

Re: Are the 90's still alive?

bubblegum pop?, why, why, why?

lets talk about REAL music

I admit every once in awhile i still blast Baby One More Time & Oops! I DiD it Again, but bubblegum pop is over.

Those songs worked for that short time period.

I remember Oops! selling 1.3 million in one week. Those were crazy numbers.

But the bublegum pop era is over and has been over.
