First album you ever bought.

Man, I wish I remembered - I know the first one bought for me was Green Day's 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, from my first boyfriend.

The first one I bought for myself was either Nas' Illmatic, Gwen Stefani's Love. Angel. Music. Baby., Scarling's So Long, Scarecrow, or Jane Child's Welcome To The Real World.

What got me into them?

As far as Nas went, something about his lyrics and the way he was able to give me gritty New York, so to speak, rubbed me the right way. The song One Love actually has a place in my heart because I related to it, having had a friend/crush in jail at the time I bought it.

Gwen Stefani and Scarling are the same story - I was a fan of their previous bands(No Doubt and Jack Off Jill), and wanted to hear their new creations. I never went back and got the older stuff from Gwen, but I own nearly all the stuff from JoJ and Scarling(went through my little proto-goth metal phase when I was 20, so it was right up my alley to follow Jessicka and Manson).

Jane Child? I only picked up all three of her albums on the strength of a song I have only heard ONCE - Don't Wanna Fall In Love. Had to have it after that - think she's an amazing talent and songwriter. Wish she would hurry up with that rumored fourth album!

Lady in Satin. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard, and still do.

It was Missy Elliot's 'Under Construction' CD
shoulda known then and there i was a homo lol #-o

Janet Jackson Control. As a naive 8 year old with a serious crush, I convinced myself that she was my girlfriend and that it was only right to have her album. Kids. Haha.:D

Electric Warrior was one of the first vinyl LPs that I bought..but the first was "Raw Power" by Iggy and the Stooges..I was 11 and it was new and scared my parents..

What a great topic!

The first album I bought with my own money was:

Steppenwolf. At Your Birthday Party.

It was on sale at K Mart for $3.45. I was 13 at the time.

I was a huge fan of Steppenwolf. I even tried to look like John Kay, the lead singer. I eventually bought all their albums and now have all their music on CD's and my ipod.

Lady in Satin. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard, and still do.

I have this album too and it's one of my favorites. I love Billie Holiday!

What a coincidence! I just posted a song by this man on another one of your threads…

I was two at the time, BTW, and had to pay in baby teeth…

No, actually it was Metallica’s Master of Puppets – I was eight and had to buy it (on cassette) for my brother to replace the one of his I had borrowed and somehow ‘lost’ at school…

^ Cliff Burton became a kind of God to me (a few years later, when I started to play the bass)
