Flash Blasts Off Again

SCI FI Channel has green-lighted production on Flash Gordon, a series based on the popular comic-strip franchise, the channel announced Jan. 12 at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif.

Production on the 22 one-hour episodes begins in Canada early this year. The series, produced by Reunion Pictures, is slated to debut on SCI FI in July, with a broadcast syndication window to follow.

The series will be produced under an agreement between King Features Syndicate, which owns the rights to Flash Gordon, and Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. (The Legend of Earthsea).

The characters of Ming, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov will be brought back for a contemporary retelling of the comic-strip story created in 1934 by Alex Raymond. The strip is still distributed internationally by King Features Syndicate.

I remember seeing the incredibly cheesy but fun 80s Flash Gordon film, and then finding the incredibly sexy and well endowed Sam Jones in an issue of Playgirl. That was a true treasure-find as a horny teen.
 
Flash Gordon - ok. But I still think of Flesh Gordon more. Think there will be a Flesh Gaydon one day?

I so got off on him when I was a kid! I was so sad to find out he wasn't blonde! LOL
I do like Flash Gordon. I would watch the show.
 
i wouldn't mind seeing it. i liked the 80's version. I thought Sam Jones was hot too. didn't know he did a playgirl spread! damn what i was obviously missing! :lol:
 
I'd prefer a TV series of Flesh Gordon...

It was campy, and it mostly had women...But there were a few good shots of Flesh now and then...

And who wouldn't want a tv character named Dr. Flexi-Jerkoff?

I love BSG for exactly the reasons you mentioned! I really enjoy how they turned the concept on its ear.

As for this Flash Gordon vehicle, I really hope its something adventerous and fun. I'm not looking for anything campy like that dreadful movie from 1980, but something that is pure escapism! The sci-fi landscape could use something along those lines right about now.

I don't have much faith in it.

But I do love Flesh Gordon, the 70's porno rip off and it's 80's sequel, Flesh Gordon and the Cosmic Cheerleaders.
 
With the past portrayals in mind, I kept wondering if they were going to have him whipped or at least take his shirt off. They kept with tradition and had him tortured with his shirt off. The rest of the show was good enough that I'll keep tuning in. They had to satisfy my perverted mind also, though, lol.
 
yeah... i thought he looked sorta hot strapped to that torture table without his shirt. !oops! ;)

overall? i thought it was all right. i'll probably tune in next week to see where the story goes.
 
I forgot this was on tonight. Just started downloading it. I don't even know what it's about but I love SciFi and Eric Johnson is hot so I must watch.
 
I taped it but haven't watched it yet. I did see a couple parts and realized that it's the guy who was Whitney on Smallville.
 
It was the pilot. First episode. I think I will give it time and see where it goes. Watching last night, I thought it was ok, not great, but watchable. I think Flash should have been tortured in his undies, but that was ok. Nice little plot device they came up with: point a hand held thingy and open up a worm hole to travel back and forth at will. Just don't lose the thingy. (you know they will at least once)
