Stealing a colleague's amendment and passing it off as your own is not something you'd expect from a US senator. But George Allen once again proves that nothing is beneath him. From his derogatory "Macaca" and "Welcome to America" comments to a Virginian native, Mr. Allen is demonstrating a type of character that is common among hoodlums and thieves. No shame and no sense of honor.

Webb campaign responds to Allen theft:

Yesterday, Senator George Allen embarrassed Virginians again.

This time Allen didn't say anything stupid. In fact, what he had to say was good. Too good, in fact. It was so good that it turned out it was stolen.

Asking to speak before Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Allen introduced an amendment to the Department of Defense appropriations bill that would provide $19 million in additional funding for the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center program, which provides treatment care and research for veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries.

So, what are the odds that George Allen had the exact same idea as Durbin, the exact same dollar figure as Durbin, the exact same language as Durbin (save one word)? And why did Allen seek special permission to speak before Durbin unless Allen was seeking to take credit for an amendment to which Durbin had already prepared and written?

Geez, Senator, has it really come to this? Are you so bankrupt of ideas that you have to steal another Senator's amendments and call them your own? It is clear you stole Dick Durbin's language. There are no odds that you could have written an exactly identical amendment to Durbin's, save one word -- I guess you thought this would allow you to call the amendment your own -- that it would have the exact dollar figure and that you would have to run down to the Senate floor and cut in front of Durbin (talk about cut and run, Senator) and introduce a virtually identical amendment. Did you think no one would notice?​

It would be nice to see Allen beaten, but my understanding is that the National Dem's are not substantially funding Webb's campaign. Tough to beat a well funded incumbent without money.

Durbin the "turban" with an amendment to do something nice for the "Nazi" troops? I find it rather hard to believe! He's made comments about our fighting men and women that are nothing short of treasonous. http://www.federalistjournal.com/fedblog/?p=162

I suppose it is more important, at the end of the day, to do what's right for our troops, rather than grab credit. It's a good bill, no matter who introduced it.

This is such a funny and yet disgusting story to read and hear about, however I've notices a very strong "lack of media attention" on this story. Hey he's liying, he actaully committed plagerism.......... I say Impeachment. LoL it worked for "Wild" Bill. This guy is such an empty suit, and he's supposed to bring hope to the Republican Party. Its like the Jedi having faith that Anakin Skywalker would bring balance to the force.

I'm wondering why he didn't sign on as a co-sponsor to the bill, rather than just change one word and pass it off as his own. He could then tout that he "reaches across the aisle to work with the Dems."

To be fair, Allen is a "front-runner" for the GOP nomination, but the past month for him has been a series of faux paus and I believe we have a right to be concerned about that. His judgement has been called into question.

I saw Durbin's comments on the Senate floor, and he certainly made comments that furthered the cause of the enemy.

Some people can try to explain this away, like saying that locking up thugs and scaring them is torture, but most Americans do not agree.

Referring to George’s habit of terrorizing a Green Bay Packer fan in their neighborhood, Jennifer wrote that the fan’s mailbox often “lay smashed in the street, a casualty of my brothers' drive-by to school in the morning. George would swerve his Mach II Mustang while Gregory held a baseball bat out the window to clear the mailbox off its post. . . . Lately, the Packers fan had resorted to stapling a Kleenex box to the mailbox post to receive his mail. George's red Mustang screeched up beside us, the Packers fan's Kleenex mailbox speared on the antenna.” [Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter, page 16]
