Which is your favorite sitcom of the two?

Both.

There is a reason they are both members of the Lifetime triumvirate (the other being The Nanny). They are both classics. :=D:

Gloden Girls, its a classic I could watch over and over. Will and Grace... meh kinda got boring.

Neither of them are my favorite sitcom of all time, but I went with Golden Girls. It was actually clever and endearing. Will & Grace, on the other hand, was terrible for the gay community.

Will and Grace was boring, didn´t like it. But GG was a very good show. Sophia for ever!

Golden Girls....no contest. They could have the show on TV 50 years from now and it will still be relevant. It's one of those "evergreen" type shows with classic comedy and classic performances.

I never cared for Will & Grace. I too think it hurt the gay community.

Golden Girls without a doubt. My partner and I even quote the Golden Girls in normal conversation. To me, Will and Grace was just a bit too stereotypical.

"So what's the big deal about Gene being a Lesbian, isn't Danny Thomas one?" Blanche concerning Dortothy's high school friend.

So true. It is timeless (sans the 80's fashion lol)..

I could watch any episode of GG numerous times and not get sick of it. Well actually, any episode that doesn't have Blanche's niece Lucy or Rose's sister Holly in it. They annoyed me.

I could also watch the first 4 seasons of W&G over and over again. It is a classic as long as you pretend the second 4 seasons did not happen (which I do).

Golden Girls for me. One of the best shows on TV ever made!! Me and my sister and our Mom spent our Sunday Nights watching this classic gem. I had a grandmother that acted just like Sophia after her stroke. She just said what was ever on her mind. I bought season one on DVD just so that I could enjoy it whenever I wanted to!

Dorothy: The Great Herring War?
Rose: Between the Lindstroms and the Johannsens.
Dorothy: Oh, THAT Great Herring War.

Blanche: No, no, no please. I cannot bear that again. She was listening to her car radio, Big Band, not all talk. There was a contest. Something about a little voice, a lucky number and a dime in a door handle, then Bim Bam Boosh, won the tickets.
Dorothy: Take a lesson Rose. That's how you tell a story.

Rose: Now, I know no one wants to hear any of my stories right now...
Dorothy: That's always a safe bet, Rose.
Rose: ...but you need to hear about my cousin Ingmar. He was different. He used to do bird imitations.
Blanche: Well, what's wrong with that?
Rose: Well, let's just say you wouldn't want to park your car under their oak tree.

The show had great writers in the beginning of the series! :D

How did Will and Grace hurt the gay community?
I, for one, like Will and Grace but I think a lot of people (and I don't disagree on this point) think that it re-inforced the gay stereotype with mainstream America. A shadow we're trying to get out from under.

For my money, though, Golden Girls comes out on top.

Exactly. It's about a cranky, obsessive-compulsive gay guy and a bitchy, catty gay guy who are both superficial and promiscuous. And neither of them can live without their sassy female sidekicks.

Blanche: "I treat my body like a temple."

Sophia: "Yeah, open to everyone, day or night."

Hard to believe that Season 7, the FINAL season, will be out on DVD in February. On one hand, it seems like the show ended too soon. But on the other hand, it's amazing to me that the show stayed FRESH for seven seasons. Even all the way up to the final episode of the entire series, this show stayed just as fresh and hilariously funny and original as it was in season one. For that, I'm almost glad that the show didn't last any longer... that way, all we're left with is fresh, original, funny material before everyone got burnt out and the show started to inevitably go downhill. There's nothing better than going out at the top of your game, and that's exactly what The Golden Girls did. Always leaves me wanting more.

The writing on the show was impeccable. You'lll never read a funnier script in your life. The chemistry between Bea, Rue, Betty and Estelle was unbeatable -- they were like sisters. They were so in tune with one another their their comedic timings back and forth couldn't have been more on-spot if they tried.

My favorite episode is when Dorothy and Blanche are invited (by Rose) to participate in a live talk show about women who live together. Only when they're live on the air do they realize it's a show about the Lesbians of Miami, LoL! And, well, you'll see... here's a clip... absolutely HYSTERICAL.

Also, the episode when all the ladies have dates, and before their dates they decide to stop off at the store. Dorothy suggests (by pointing to the condoms on the counter) that they should consider buying some protection... but Rose is confused by what Dorothy is pointing at. Also absolutely HYSTERICAL.

I'll leave everyone with some unforgettable quotes:

Blanche: This is strictly off the record, but Dirk is nearly five years younger than I am.

Dorothy: In what, Blanche... DOG YEARS?

---------------------

Blanche: I tried giving up sex.

Dorothy: I guess you fell off the wagon.

Sophia: And on to a naval base!

---------------------

Dorothy: Blanche, Jean is a lesbian.

Sophia: You're not shocked?

Blanche: Well no! I mean, I've never known any personally, but isn't Danny Thomas one?

Dorothy: Not LEBANESE, Blanche. Lesbian!

Blanche: Lesbian. LESBIAN.... LESBIAN?!

----------------------

Dorothy and Sophia are playing Scrabble.

Dorothy: Ma, 'disdam' is not a word.

Sophia: It certainly is!

Dorothy: Okay, prove it, use it in a sentence.

Sophia: You're no good at disdam game.

-----------------------

Blanche: Do you know what I hate doing most after a party?

Rose: Trying to find your underwear in the big pile?

------------------------

Dorothy: What they need is an aphrodisiac.

Rose: An African what?

Dorothy: An aphrodisiac, Rose. Something that makes you feel sexy... like Spanish Fly.

Rose: [disgusted] Spanish flies?

Dorothy: Fly, Rose. One Fly. Spanish Fly.

Rose: Oh, come on Dorothy. I've been to Spain. It's not the cleanest country in the world, they must have thousands of flies.

Dorothy: It is not a fly Rose! It's a beetle!

Rose: They call it a fly but it's really a beetle?

Dorothy: Yes.

Rose: How do they know it's Spanish?

Dorothy: Because it wears a little sombrero, Rose!

I love that Will and Grace at least got gay exposure maisntream, even if it wasn't perfect. The jokes and gags were funny, but it got a bit too obvious and reptative in nature.

Golden Girls is better IMO because it was consistent and really emotional over some serious matters. It also had gay friendly themes, like Blanche accepting her gay younger brother.
