In these photos released by the Grant County Jail, twin brothers Alexander and Nicholas Grunke, 20, of Ridgeway, Wis., and Dustin Radke, 20, of Dodgeville, Wis., are shown. The three made initial appearances in Circuit Court Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, on charges of attempted third-degree sexual assault and attempted misdemeanor theft in connection with an attempt last weekend to dig up the grave of a 20-year-old woman who was killed in a motorcycle accident Aug. 27, authorities said. On their way to dig up a grave in rural southwestern Wisconsin, the Grunke brothers and a friend stopped at a Wal-Mart to pick up some condoms, authorities said.

Three days later, on Tuesday, twins Nicholas and Alexander Grunke, 20, and Dustin Radke, 20, were charged in Grant County with attempted theft — and attempting to have sex with a corpse.

"In different schools that teach you about bizarre behavior, necrophilia is one of those things that you hear about, but never think you'll have to deal with," said Grant County Sheriff Keith Grovier.

A Cassville police officer arrived at the St. Charles Cemetery on Saturday night after a neighbor alerted police to suspicious activity, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday. The officer found an abandoned vehicle parked near the cemetery. Minutes later, the complaint stated, the officer saw Alexander Grunke walking toward the vehicle, dressed in black and sweating profusely.

After being questioned, Grunke told the officer his brother and Radke were trying to dig up a grave, according to the complaint.

The two drove into the cemetery to find the partially dug grave of a 20-year-old woman who was killed in a motorcycle accident Aug. 27 in Cassville. The diggers had only managed to reach the top of the grave's concrete vault.

Nicholas Grunke and Radke were arrested Sunday morning in Beetown, about eight miles from the cemetery.

The complaint said Radke told police that Nicholas Grunke had asked him to help dig up the Cassville woman's body and take it to Grunke's house, so that Grunke could have sex with it. On the way to the cemetery, Radke said, they stopped by a Dodgeville Wal-Mart to buy condoms "because Nick wanted to use them when he had sex with a corpse," the complaint added.

Grovier said the three did not know the woman but had seen her picture in a newspaper obituary.

The Grunkes are from Ridgeway, while Radke is from Dodgeville, both in Wisconsin's Iowa County, about 50 miles northeast of Cassville.

Grovier said the woman was "very well-liked, very popular" in Cassville, a Mississippi River town of about 1,100. "The community is very upset," the sheriff said. "They can't believe it."

"The family, they're people of faith, but this is still a difficult time for them," the Rev. John Norder, pastor of St. Charles Church in Cassville, told the Associated Press on Monday. "We're all pretty shook up that something like this could even happen. It blows your mind how anyone could stoop so low."

Radke and the Grunkes were being held Tuesday night in the Grant County jail. The Grunke brothers were assigned a $1,000 bond, while Radke had a $1,500 bond for previous misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, Grovier said.

Each could face nearly 5½ years in prison and a $17,500 fine.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

That's really horrible. August 27 - that was almost 2 weeks ago. Couldn't they pick a fresher one?

That's really gross though.... The guy on the right kind of looks like Harry Potter lol

As disgusting as it is. Look at them ,the only one that stands a chance of having sex with anyone alive is Radke. And that is a long shot. But jail time should give them a whole new out look on sex and being violated.

Yea true, at least in jail they'll each have the attempt for lots of sex. YaY for them, I hope they held onto those condoms.

why the heck do they publish their uncensored photos? is that allowed?

Yea as long as their over 18 your allowed to publish the photos. Man they so have to move out of Wisconsin when they get out of jail. "Hey aren't you the guys who were gunna fuck the dead woman"?

is the american government trying to provoke lynch mobs or what? they are not even spoken guilty, just charged ...

Well maybe they are, but its common. When reporting on a crime its normal to post photos of the accused to go along with the story. The only time its not done is when the party(s) involved is under 18 years old. The story still says they're "accused" . Corny while I hear what your saying, I think it's the right thing to do, just becuase when there's a child mollestor or a rapeist, I wish their face would be the entire cover of Newspapers. Unfortunally I know I can't have it both ways so I'll have to agree with the posting the pictures of those accused of the crime.

Just a word from a Wisconsinite - Even though some of my previous dates have been like corpses - NO we do not ALL do this, nor do we all live on farms, roll cows, drink tons of beer, eat pounds of cheese etc etc....

so and if the charged child molester gets proven innocent or even worse the process is cancelled because there is no proof - who repairs the damage that the photo did? i don't believe all people will say .. "oh you were innocent, so welcome back to our society". it's still innocent til proven guilty. and those pics are undemining that.

I would tend to agree with you corny - I wouldn't mind seeing the pictures AFTER they are convicted only. Your point about the pictures I've always said the same thing.

I think the biggest problem is that our media today has to have whatever it can get for their ratings. Sensationalism sells their paper, tv ads etc. And unfortunately the human race loves its blood and guts. In this regard, we have not progressed much beyond the Roman arena.

I agree with you, Corny, but with todays technology, it seems to to be a dog eat dog world. Sometimes it would seem that justice is broken. I was and still should be innocent until proven guilty.

I bet they'd all look cute with a much needed make-over. ..|

^^maybe queer eye could do a makeover when they're in prison...they can re-do all the prisoners...i'm sure that would go over fine.

it seems almost every day i read or see something online and i say to myself "now i've seen everything" yet, i am once again floored. and what's up with buying condoms? she was dead for over a week...if she had an std, it died with her didn't it? were they afraid of getting her pregnant with a zombie baby??

Corny, I think they are allowed to use their pictures because they admitted their guilt to the cops. I wonder how stiff the penalty is for grave robbing. Sorry.

corny, our press here can publish the pics of anyone charged with a crime if they so wish...what bothers me is, they usually publish photos of the accused but not the victim which is bullshit...we should do it like they do in europe and not allow any press til the trial is over...not that it will ever happen.
