Guys of all orientations "experimenting" how common is it really?

I've experimented with a few guys who were legitimately straight and just curious about a new experience, but the majority of times it was just bi or gay men who didn't want to come out of the closet, or banked on the pretense of being straight making them more attractive to men.

The Kinsey surveys were pretty skewed because they included a lot of men who'd been in prison - where same-sex activity was the only game in town. Modern studies that use better sampling methods tend to put the proportion of guys who've had sex with another man at about 15%, with maybe half of that number identifying as gay.

The problem is that since same-sex anything is taboo, that taboo will 1) decrease the number of men who actively want to have relationships/sex with other men (they're afraid) 2) decrease the number willingly admit having had such relationships. With that said, the number of men acknowledging having had same-sex relationships (middle-aged and lower) is about 5%: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhsr/nhsr036.pdf

The terminology is obviously biased. Experimentation implies that it must be some sort of deviation from the norm. It's a double standard since teenaged males will only be accused of experimentation (even by "tolerant" people) if it's with another guy. You probably won't hear, "Yeah, Tom is experimenting with Suzie. We just don't want to put a label on it since he could prefer sucking dicks after all." So the word is belittling and heteronormative. Let's not use it, okay :-)

So the answer is that same-sex sex is probably more common than the self-reported 5% and (given a few other reasons) would near universal without the current taboos.
