I'm sure there has been a point in everyone's life where they have though that they are different then others. But what exactly made you think you were different then others. What differentiates you then in others. Can be good or bad. We might be different in our own ways. But I think everyone is somewhat different in their own way.

So what makes you different

We are just talking about what makes us different...not better....many (if not all) of the things that I mentioned are considered kind of freaky in the gay community and/or society in general.

....except fo my Prius...people seem to like that one now that gas has gone up so much. (NOTE: I bought it just before the huge jump in prices.)

Well, I realized a couple years ago that I'm very similar to a dog, what with the whole "man's best friend" thing and the love of doing anything involving balls... sports or otherwise, as it turns out.

It may not be completely unique, but I'd consider it a quirk.

I'm different because I don't mind not being different.

Perfectly happy being mediocre...

because l'm fucking PreTTy and awesome and smart and completely fucking nuts

got that

How am I not different?

You and I have a lot of similarities ...

... but a lot of differences too.

Good on you for being you! :-)

As for myself ... I came out a few years ago as a Democrat, having been brought up by a long family line of proud Republicans.

I think they're used to it now. I kid them about goofy Republicans and they kid me about goofy Democrats. There are plenty of both to draw from....

I'm just me. If you'd know me in person you'd understand what that means...

I've always been "different". Many people have said "You're weird" but, so far, everyone I've met usually really like my weirdness and craziness. Not bragging or anything but it's what I'm constantly told. So, my weirdness is positive and good.

1. I was raised on a farm and pretty much red meat, potatoes and whole milk but now love vegetables and fish with much less red meat in the diet (although a good steak or kabbobs are fantastic!)

2. I was an oops baby -- my father was 53 and mother 34 and then there was another oops with my sister six years later.

3. I have lost a lot of people around me to cancer and because of that, have developed a way of talking with others who are victimized by this dreaded disease.

4. I was raised "religious" but had a journey that brought me to a "faith" with which I am comfortable and reliant upon during challenging times.

5. I didn't come out until later in life (three years ago) but am not disappointed because I otherwise would not be the person I am.

6. I am told I look 35, act 21, and have the sex drive of a 16 year old!

7. I love younger guys because of their (normally) lack of bitterness that I have found in the older guys I have met since coming out.

8. I love good clothes and appearance but don't get all hung up on the latest labels and knowing what is what. I tend to go shopping, see something I like and buy it regardless of label, store, or "designer!"

9. I love to cuddle and kiss; to hold hands and be romantic. I can enjoy going to a club, a walk on the beach hand in hand with someone I care about, or just cuddled in each other's arms.

10. I don't have a "kind" of music. I love a symphony, techno, country (well, the twangy kind is out), classic. Probably the only one I don't like is rap.

11. I don't have a kind of guy I am attracted to. I have dated black, white, Asian, blondes, etc. I do have a fetish -- hairy legs!

12. While I am hairy from the waist down, my chest is pretty sparse save for some around my nipples (I shaved off the other 18 when some decided to protest and turned white)

13. I am a Republocrat. I have never voted straight party ticket and probably never will although I probably should be a Democratican with my leanings.

14. I enjoy sports and participate in a football and (soon) kickball league.

15. I enjoy friends and entertaining.

16. I have been in a monogomous relationship for 19 years and never cheated (unless you count my hand and then it was pretty regular). I tried to be "straight" and "cured" but finally came to realize it was a frustration that would kill me and was never more relieved than when I said, "I am gay!"

17. I have two kids whom I love and who love me (and who I am out to). I also have a step-son who, even after the divorce, has continued to call me "dad" and visits. The step-daughter I raised...well...she'll say hello if I run into her but that is about it.

...Wow.

You sound like a real interesting guy.

One thing I wanna know though. Was it your idea to be straight and cured or was that someone else's.

I have heard of that kind of thing is why I am wondering.

When I decided I would go into law enforcement/public safety and then city management, gay was not something that was discussed or even tolerated. At one time many state police agencies used to have veto power when their members wanted to even get married; I don't think they would have approved sucking dick! Even now, many are still pretty homophobic where I cam from in the midwest.

So I wanted to be what I wanted to be in life and being gay was not something I could ever admit to. For that reason, I sought out ways to "change." There are all kinds of religious groups that make claims to do many different things and fixing "gay" is one of them. They also have a way of heaping the guilt upon you when it doesn't work -- aka you aren't praying right; you aren't praying hard enough; you really didn't have a conversion; you really weren't open to the Spirit fixing you...etc...etc...

So while it was a social acceptance, it became a quest for me that almost resulted in my destruction because, while I could achieve many goals in life, not being gay was unfixable.

I have found that most groups who claim the ability to "fix" are based upon the same style and format which is to guilt the person into thinking they are something they are not. Often times the person is bisexual and can move between gay and straight; other times they end up living a very lonely life in which they continually are striving for something for which they were not created. I think these groups do a great deal of harm...

Like I said, saying, "I am gay" allowed me to shed multitudes of masks which I had slowly been putting on one at a time over my life to hide what was really underneath. I am happy with what was there and apparently others around me are as well!

Thanks for asking!

Oh...and one other thing that is different is that I have been divorced for three years and am still amazed that a long relationship in gay terms is six months....monogamous is even more strange.....

Yeah..

When you said that it reminded me of a youtube video I saw once. Of a man who said he once had homosexual feelings but he prayed alot and god healed him or something and he diddn't think it would work at first but after time he said he was now cured. And he said that god can help fix gays.

I can just hear those homophobes and conservatives saying "HOW DARE YOU ALLOW GAYS TO ENFORCE PUBLIC SAFETY"

Well I'm real sorry that you had to hide it and then try to believe that you weren't gay. I used to think it was just a phase. There was no denying that I liked men but I figured all I have to do is go out with a girl, have sex with her, marry her, and then my problems would be over.

But I realized if I did that I would have done what the older generation did and in this day and age it's more open and free to be gay. In some areas. So might as well take advantage of that since those before us have sacrificed alot so we can have that freedom.

There is also something called godtube and I saw a video of a girl who acted like someone died because she found out her best friend was an atheist.

But I've heard of that type of thing as well.

I'm not surprised those are the tactics they use. It's all a mind game to them. If they can drive you into denial enough then they can make you deny you are gay. It's not curing. It's just masking who you are. And it's sick and I swear they should go to jail for that. In some ways it's psychopathic. South park did something like that too. And the kid who was bi kept pictures of under wear models or boxes and tried to fight the urge. Then he threatened to kill himself and etc. I know south park is just a fucked up show that's funny but most of the episodes come from current events or things that are going on in the world so there is some relevance.

Point being I am sure that some people who undergo the "fixing" do feel very scared and threatened and either commit suicide, live in hell, or admit that they are in fact gay or bi and that it isn't the end of the world.

It feels good to say "I'm gay" doesn't it. It still feels a bit weird saying it though. Maybe in a few years it won't feel so weird to say.

No problem.

I like to hear stories of people's experiences in life.

Wow JY. I've never kissed a girl but I've been kissed on the cheek..the one on my face.
