If you want to capture a single window or dialog box to the clipboard, use Alt+PrtScrn (hold down Alt whilst pressing the Print-Screen key).

This can save you needing to crop an image, and helps enormously if you have multiple monitors.

For the Mac users out there, CMD-SHIFT-3 will take a snapshot of your whole screen and save it to your desktop. Alternatively, CMD-SHIFT-4 will give you a neat little targetting pointer with which you can select a particular area of the screen to take a picture of - when you have selected it the image will be saved to your desktop.

Why, oh why didn't I discover this thread earlier??? Thanks so much, Brandon. (*8*) (*8*)

I have just tried it Brandon and it worked a dream.

Just one hicup. When I saved the part that I had selected in "paint" it didn't give me a choice of saving it as jpeg I only had the choice of bitmap.

For me that is not a problem as I can change that using Ifranview.

Once again thank you.

Hey...

Can anyone here explain me how to make a screenshot of a video (.mpeg) playing in Windows Media Player?

I tried it with the Print Scr. Key but it didn't work... :(
When i copied it into Paint it was just black...

Please help me ^^

angel, the media player is using a technology called "directdraw" to show the videos. unfortunately this layer can't be screencaptured using the hardcopy function. you need to play the video with a video player that can do screencaps - such as powerdvd (google).
or a screencapture program that can capture directdraw areas as well, such as hypersnap dx

Hey Corny!

Thanks, I've tried it with PowerDVD and after some trying it worked *yeah*

F:A

download the shareware version of hypersnap dx (google)

no, i'm just telling you that because i like to fool people into downloading huge software with like 3mb of data.
everytime i do that the pink cookiemonsters gives me ten bucks.

you could also just read a few posts above where i said why hypersnap can capture videos. and where i even linked to it. but if you are to lazy to read, or to use google or download 3mb, i'm sorry, i'm too lazy to type any more.

To make yr live a bit easier, to make screenshots, I use a free program, called Gadwin Printscreen....

Why Gadwin PrintScreen?

On most Windows computers a full screen of data can be put on the clipboard by pressing the PrintScreen key. This sends whatever you see on screen to the clipboard, which you must then edit in a different graphics program to cut to the right size and image format. Here are some other reasons not to use the prefabricated PrintScreen function of Windows:

Full screen of data can be put only on the clipboard.

It is either difficult or impossible to capture some elements of a Windows screen, such as different shaped cursors.

You spend too much time making image captures.

BDX hope you guys like it

I've already download and install the program.. It is a great addition for print screen function. No need to copy and paste anymore in order to save screen captured picture. Thanks BDX for sharing this info.

sorry, but no.
that heavily depends on what window manager and/or distribution/software you have installed.

Thank you so much for that link to Gadwin Printscreen. It is so much easier than Paint. Guys just click on Print Screen then click on "continue output" then save. You can crop with Irfanview and your done!!!! You don't have to search for those tiny white dots and you can save as a jpeg not bmp as Paint does.

Cuddly Bear, thanks for your explaination of screenshot that opened my eyes about it, but this has it beat by far.:=D: :=D:

great help, thanks so much, i actually use an app to take the shots, it even does it if your playing a 3D game, forgot the name but i got it from http://www.theinventory.org its cool if you play games like Unreal or Half life, you can press any key, or set a macro and press a key and it stores image as a BMP, but anyhow, thats for games only, hehe

Looks like the images are dead, guess this thread serves no real purpose without pictures to illustrate.

You don't even have to crop in paint... if you just want to print a window, press: ALT+PRINT SCREEN. That will cut out everything else. :)
