I just finished up the Trilogy yesterday and I must say wow! It was a great series to me, action packed. I never would have thought America would come to such a thing... if you haven't read them already you should strongly consider it.

The movie, The Hunger Games, is coming out I believe in March 2012. Hopefully it will be as good as the book.

/Though I was Alex Pettyfer was casted as Peeta... well, for obvious reasons. ;D

I really enjoyed the series. I somehow did not picture the characters the way any of the actors who they picked to play them look.

But I am excited to see what they do with it. I am actually re-reading the trilogy again now.

I just finished up Catching Fire again, in my opinion one of the best books. I liked the arena in this one more than the first. The whole clock idea was a really cool idea.

I need to grab Mockingjay out of my locker before I leave on Monday.

However, I didn't picture Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss because I thought she was to "sexy" for the role in the eyes of others. However, in the picture of her as Katniss she fits the role perfectly.

Though she doesn't have the Olive skin...

Love the books (not necessarily the ending) was super surprised/confused by the casting for Peeta. Luckily however Josh is a great actor so I'm assuming he was chosen because his skill more than makes up for the fact he's not really the physical embodiment of Peeta.

Also I have to say that I really think the series as a whole will NOT adapt well. SOOOOOO much of the story goes on inside Katniss's head, and hinges on when she realizes things, what she thinks of other characters at any given moment plus she's a character who is not meant to emote... I just can't see it working half as well as the books.

I absolutely hate the casting for Peeta! I imagined Pettyfer as Peeta when I read through the first book.

I was surprised by Jennifer Lawrence's casting but seeing that picture made me feel better about it. Plus the fact that she is Academy Award nominated helps me believe she will do a good job.

I am only on the 5th chapter of Hunger Games in my 2nd reading of the trilogy. But I am enjoying it still.
I'm sure she'll do a fantastic job!

Did she get the nomination for Winters bones?

Not to play the comparison game, but Twilight worked much the same way. Bella is emotionless throughout the series and most of the action is in her head. But they managed to adapt it fairly well depending on your feelings about the Twilight Saga, mine are as a fan.

Many books are hard to adapt. They will most likely focus a lot on the relationship between Katniss and Peeta, and Gale.

I mean not to start a rivalry of fandoms because I don't feel the book series are comparable for many reasons but mainly I haven't gone near Twilight books. I have seen part of one of the movies and I'll just say telling me that it might turn out that way is NOT a case to me that it can work.

I've only read the first book, but I love it. Some parts could've been re-written as they were kind of cheesy.

I think the movie will be a fun watch. They probably will focus on the Katniss-Peeta-Gale love triangle. When people see that, I know they'll compare it to Twilight and that scares me. That will drive away potential viewers.

Yes. I haven't seen that yet. Guess I should rent it sometime and see how she does.

Also, she's in the upcoming X-Men First Class movie.

Yeah, I actually just figured that out yesterday. I really want to see it as well. I suppose it gives me a reason now!

I was actually thinking how people will be turning this into the next Twilight. Team Peeta, Team Gale... and if it comes to it, Team Finnick. Though you probably don't know who that is if you haven't read the second book.

Yeah, I have no clue who that is. lol

People will. It's a young adult novel aimed at teens containing a love triangle. Some peoplw will write it off as soon as they hear that.

If they do turn it into the next Twilight I'll be contemplating abandoning the series all together. D:

^I'd just move on to Uglies, another popular young adult series that's supposedly coming out with a movie this year.

With that being said, The Hunger Games is frequently compared to Uglies. I can see the comparisons better though:

The Hunger Games: Dystopia, teens battle to the death, Katniss-Peeta-Gale triangle, female main character.

Uglies: Dystopia, teens become mind-controlled mannequins, Tally-David-Shay-Zane triangle, female main character.

Well the signs of that kind of thing are already showing. They're increasing Gale's part in the first book to strengthen the love triangle element which is a shame because what they don't understand is that this isn't a romance. It's distopian political story with a romantic subplot.

^You have to look at the audience the movie probably will be directed towards. A romantic struggle will respond better than a political struggle.

The marketing people need to look at the audience the movie will attract. i need to look at it's quality objectively. The sad truth is that film business has become more business than film but that doesn't mean I have to care about that. Quite frankly I openly resent it as I feel that story and character development should dictate key decisions but in the modern world those will always be guided by marketing. I can only lament how badly this story will likely be butchered and hope it makes it through with some quality to it.

Some parts nd maybe people are inevitably cut out of the film. I wonder which parts or which people they'll cut out?

I imagine the scenes with Haymitch, Effie, Katniss, and Peeta to be cut down and Effie's part to be cut down altogether, along with Foxface. Rue is a must, as her death is very symbolic and a highlight of the story.

I just hope they don't add in people.

Well I've heard they're adding parts of Gale "protesting the games in the capitol" which makes not a damn lick of sense considering the vice grip that the Capitol has in book one.

Mostly I'm concerned about the second book where the film worthy action doesn't kick in until about halfway through the book. I'd imagine they're going to trim heavily from the front which will be a crime because those events while nuanced and not action packed inform Katniss's character greatly.

I'd say the stylist stuff is probably going to get quite the trim but over all I'm not sure how they'll handle it because passage of time in the book series is anything but uniform.

^How would Gale even make it to the Capitol? And he'd face immediate death for protesting. Hopefully, the screenwriters scrap that idea?
