Hey did not see any thread about "Hunger Games" would give the movie A-! Liam Hensworth and josh hutcherson two lead males. Hensworth only in this movie for maybe..| 10 minutes, but will have a much bigger role in the two up coming hunger games movies.

Really strong movie, good acting, tough to watch the 1st couple minutes of the arena scene ( thats when the 24 players arrive to start the game)a lot of the younger hunger games tributes ( that is what they call the kids that will be playing in the games) get just get slaughtered. The ending is really good.

Hope you go see it! ..|..|..|..|..|:wave::wave::wave:

I can't understand all the attention this is getting in all the media. The reviews are average. What is driving this mass appeal? Does this movie have young, horny vampires in it who are always shirtless?

If you read the books you may get it. I thought it sounded like a kind of neat concept so I bought the first book. My neighbour thought it was INSANE and there was no way they'd make a movie about this...( mind you Battle Royale has much the same idea.. I digress)

I read it and immediately wanted to see what they'd do with the movie. I lent the book to my neighbor, he loved it. They're a quick, easy read, (young adult lit.) but the story is so well written, and its so hard to put down.

My boyfriend and I are going to see it on a double date with our "hag" and her boyfriend (her and I have read the first 2 books, she's reading the third right now, I have to wait to buy it :( )

Didn't read the book but saw the movie. Shocked by the "Game". It's the ultimate surviror. Liked the movie...|

I secretly admit I have read the first 3 books (I can read each one in 4 hours at most) but have no intention to see the movies. The movie seems true to the book but if they make future adaptations of the books, they will have to push the "blood" boundary which may push it into R-rated territory. From what I heard tonight from a friend, it was "fleshed out" in the sense that the gore is tuned down to get a PG-13 rating. I heard they had trouble overseas keeping it "non-adult" but reedited it to make it so. If they do turn it down in the later books, you will see a lot of pissed of fans.

Loved the books (still reading Mockingjay)!

Can't wait to see the movie (hopefully tomorrow)!

Well i just saw the movie and was really impressed with it. i was expecting less of it, much less, but was really impressed. especially with how faithful to the book it was (with the exception of certain parts), but i will admit that the scenes they added really did help flesh out the story and gave premonition of things to come in the sequels.

now i want to see the japanese movie Battle Royale to see how similar they are. some people are saying the hunger games are a rip-off of that movie.

I am just going through the first book now. I want to finish the book before I watch the film.

I do very much like Jennifer Lawrence.

Not so much Liam Hemsworth...much more of a fan of his brother, Chris.

:D

LOVED the movie! Sure there were things missing that you pick up on if you read the book...but obviously they can't put every detail into the movie. Jennifer Lawrence is fantastic in this film. End of story. Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket was also fantastic.

I want Catching Fire to come out tomorrow please....I can't wait!!!

Just saw the movie. Fucking loved it. Or maybe I'm just easily impressed. I actually haven't read the books but now I definitely will. This will keep me entertained until the Avengers and/or the new season of The Walking Dead premieres. =p Someone here mentioned it had average reviews... not so. They're above Average and already it's poised to open in the $100 M+ category.

The only thing that absolutely bothered me was the fact that Clove got away with her words. I would think that what she said about her killing Rue would only fuel her. I wanted to see Katniss get pissed and fucking slaughter the bitch. Thresh saving her, to me, did nothing to help the story. I haven't read the book, so I don't know if this served a purpose. I know Katniss killing Clove would be another cliché of 'Lion King-eque' proportions, but I think it would've fit a film of already numerous clichés. Not that clichés are bad, they certainly worked for this movie.

Other than that I loved the film! It had it all; action, romance, sorrow and suspense. This is one of the only movies that had me on pin and needles. The dragging of time helped it a lot - had my heart pounding with each number as the countdown elapsed - had me sweating and thinking I was actually the one going out there! The only thing I thought was missing was mythical creatures. I love a movie with out-of-the-ordinary beings, and to my pleasure out came the dogs. I was sold! It made up the Katniss not being the one who killed Clove a bit. =p

As far as Josh Hutcherson, this boy (sounds funny calling him a man since he's so short XD) had me crushing before this movie, now I lust him even more! I knew he had an ass even before being legal =x so I was waiting for a chance to see his bootyful derriere. There was a part at the reaping where his character's name (Peeta) was announced. He was going up the stairs to the stage and the camera was on his back as he went up - but it fucking cut off before the camera go to his ass! Then I got my just desserts when he was wearing tight pants and he stepped up to throw a giant ball. When you see the film, you will see it. Glorious!

I understand about the "gore" factor, but I really not to interested in seeing a gore porn movie like Saw or any of those disgusting movies. Lets not forget those that are killed during that scene are young children. That one part with that little curly haired kid that was in the tent, really hared to watch.

I wouldn't call it a rip-off per se. While it does address the same type of idea (teens killing each other in an arena deathmatch) they're very different. Mind you I have yet to SEE the movie for myself, but one of my best friends in high school was a big fan of it, and my boyfriends brother (and all his friends) love it.

While Hunger Games takes a male and female tribute from each of the 12 districts, Battle Royale picks a grade 9 high school class to send to the arena. The combatants are guaranteed to have known each other for years, and if they don't manage to be the last survivor within (I think) 3 days, then explosive collars around their necks will kill them all.

Similar for sure, but I think each is a unique take on the same theme.

It was way to fast and I felt like they skipped lot's of little things and they cut out the ENTIRE avox sub-plot and liam hemsworth is a terrible actor -_- but Josh and Jennifer were amazing :)

I would also add a comparison to The Running Man as well as Battle Royale.

Saw the film today and found the whole thing a bit confusing and nonsensical. I admit I know nothing of the source novels so I can't comment on how faithful the film is. It was visually very impressive although the action sequences being filmed in hand-held close-up presumably by a hyperactive Parkinson's sufferer makes for a queezy experience. (I may be getting too old for the over-edited pop-video aesthetic).

I just found the whole premise quite ridiculous. It came across to me like some wing-nut right-wing fantasy about wholesome, salt-of-the-earth working classes being oppressed and cowed by an ultra effete, ultra-liberal (which totally jars with the fascistic policing and unquestioning support for the games) urban elite.

I also fail to see why the tributes went along with it so willingly, particularly the farcical pre-games show.

In my opinion, it needed a far more convincing backstory to have any chance of the premise being remotely believable.

I'm not saying there needs to be gratuitous gore but it detracts from the overall atmosphere. I equate it to the crappy SNES version of Mortal Kombat that has no blood. It's just another generic fighting game then. You can't have violence without blood. It is a series that is essentially a bloodsport.

I know! I loved the movie but it could have easily lasted another 30 minutes, EASY!

stoowii, about your comments on Katniss and Clove:
it's important that Thresh came to Katniss' rescue because it shows a bond forming between people from 2 different Districts. actually the important part is that he lets her live, because she tried to protect Rue (and the book had more emphasis on how she decorated her body with flowers, as a way of showing defiance to the Capitol). there was a slightly different scene aswell in the book, where Katniss gives the 3 finger salute to District 11 after they send her some food as a thank you for Rue. people from the different Districts are totally separate, so those parts are meant to show the beginnings of them uniting and supporting eachother. the riot scene they added for the film was good as it showed what could result from such small actions.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I need to read the books. But still, Thresh could've helped her with a male character maybe attacking her. Males are naturally stronger than women, but what I presume to be a younger girl (in the story and movie) pinning her down? I don't like. I guess I can't get over the fact that if it wasn't for Thresh, Clove probably would've gotten away with her harsh words AND killing her off. I wanted Clove to die by Katniss' hands.

totally agree with this...30 more minutes would have let them flesh out a few more things(Katniss' mom and her knowledge of the medicinal plants as one that annoyed me the most...cause all of a sudden Katniss had leaves on her arms after the tracker jacker and it's like...huh?)

you have to take into consideration that Clove is a "career"...so she's been training for the games her whole life...as opposed to Katniss.
