I have a fish pond in my garden. Not only do I have a large selection of colorful koi swimming around -- a cute family of frogs has decided to call our pond home and hop around carefree on the lily pads.

Today, I was outside looking at the cute little ribbits, when all of a sudden I saw a snake on the edge of the pond leering hungrily at the cute little critters. I don't know if the snake is poisonous or not, but I don't care for snakes and I'm sure my amphibious froggy friends don't either.

Does anyone know a good way of getting rid of snakes without harming my fish, frogs, or pond? Help!! :help:

Can you post a piccie, RL?

Depending on what type, snake soup is delicious - and warming during the winter months. The taste is like chicken and mushroom combined!:D

If it is a snake...snake...YIKES....................RUN

If it is a trouser snake...Elvin's advise is good....Beat It!!!!

I don't know if the snake is poisonous or not,
It is hard to tell if poisonous or not. If the head is triangle shape, it is poisonous. If the head is elongated, it is not poisonous. If the snake is on the ground, get a shovel and cut his head off. A 410 shotgun comes in handy, you can blow its head off.

If I can coax him out of the pond, I'll grab my digital camera & post a pic, but it's getting dark now, so I'll have to wait & see if he's still there tomorrow or if he slithered away.

I ate snake many years ago and, yes, it was delicious. This guy, unfortunately, is not big enough to satisfy me as a snack. (He is big enough to eat one of my little froggies, though!)

How can I get rid of him without harming him or the environment?

How big is this snake?

If you don't know for sure, if poisinous or not, don't go messing around with it.

There are fishin nets that have a long handle and small mesh, you might be able to catch the snake when he is in the pond. Be careful, snakes sometime will charge at you, if threatened. If you get him in a net, I would kill him.

The snake will come back to the pond, because that is where the food is, frogs and fish. Make a decision, do you want the snake, or the frogs and the fish.

you have a fish POND? how rich are you rational? and you looking for a hot biracial boy as your plaything?

Were you able to see what color is was?
He's brown with yellow horizontal stripes. I don't think he's poisonous, but until I can positively identify his species, I'm not fooling around with him, because we have both poisonous and non-poisonous snakes in this area.

He's pretty small. Not more than 14" long, I'd say. I think he's just a pup -- but he sure does look hungry.

My partner goes out and does gardening every day. He's freaked out by the snake and wants me to get rid of it, because he's terrified of them.

Get one of those 5 gallon plastic buckets that come with a lid. Use a net or some such other device and put him in the bucket, put the lid on, securely, then drive him away to a nearby field or natural body of water. Loosen the lid, without taking it off, then turn the bucket on its side and the top should come off and the snake should come out. Be mindful though, that snakes are good for the environment and can help in pest control.

You could call Samuel L. Jackson, maybe he could get someone to make a moive about it.

"Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherfucking snakes in this motherfucking pond!"

It sounds like the snake is a garter snake. Go to the web and see if you can find a picture. If it is a garter snake, that is no problem. It might eat the smaller frogs, but I doubt it will bother the fish. Garter snakes are very benefical and non-poisonous. If it is a garter snake, you might have luck chasing it away with a broom or rake.

Now, with a garter snake, the stripes run the length of the body. I would never kill a garter snake. Some kids make pets out of them. But be sure what it is.

I don't know where you live, but soon snakes will find a good cave to sleep all winter long. So, he is probably hungry and needs some fat to pass the winter.
Let him alone, I'm sure, tomorrow he will be already gone.

Snakes are a constant in the south, even when I was in georgia, we used to have cotton mouths come up to the porch, let me tell you a .45 is a great thing to have. Personally I'd just shoot it, other wise, liek someone else said, it will just come back, it has established territory in your pond, there is a stable source of food, and it doesnt feel afraid of preditors.
