I have lost faith in the human race! And our electoral system.

HB 751 passes with a large margin.

This little amendment that I had posted on here over a year ago and was told by oh so many here, that people are too smart to vote for that.

Well it has passed and now our wills, our medical directives and our power of attorneys are NOW INVALID!!!!!!!! THEY ARE AS WORTHLESS AS THE PAPER THEY ARE WRITEN ON!

I have never HATED a place so very much in my life! MY HOME! The place I have lived for 20 some odd years has now made me, someone born and raised in the GOOD O' US of A has now had his rights to appoint who I see fit to speak on my behalf taken AWAY from me!:grrr:

Now I will have NO right to see the man I have been with for 14 fucking years in the hospital, nor he me.

There are so many areas in our lives that are now affected by this backwards retarded amendment to our lovely red neck hick of a state.

Congratulation Virginia, you have just proven how ignorant you are. Hey why you all are at why not bring back slavery!..|

Leave whatever comments you want, I'm pissed and have a migraine and I'm going to bed now because I will be busy either contacting a lawyer to find out what limited rights I have left or leaving this fuckwad of a backwoods state.

Honey, I feel for you and your partner. Virginia as (most Southern states) have shown their true colors and that is ANTI-GAY ANYTHING. It is a shame and disgusting.
 
Conservatives disgust me sometimes. They're so self-righteous and preach and preach and preach about morality and who's going to Hell for their sins. They've contributed to more crimes against humanity than any of the people they bitch about. If there is a Hell, they're the ones going there.
 
colorado is still a little close with all the votes not in i still have hope bottom line we are here to stay and you cant get rid of us. and the goverment does not have the right to tell us anything about benefits or whatever.
 
Sorry Lunarus, had I seen your post before I would have said good luck. I think gays tend to think the world is less homophobic than it really is b/c we avoid that as much as possible. But there is a LOT of intolerance toward gays out there still.

I too am holding out hope for Colorado, although so far it doesn't look great, but it's still early. I'd consider it a win if only the referundum passed and the ban on marriage passed as well. At least the rights would still be protected and the conservatives can win their word battle.
 
I'm sorry. I used to live in VA. Did you really think VA was a progressive or gay friendly place?
 
I almost feel like crying! Not only has this state said that they HATE me and my partner, they feel the need to take what little rights we had left. Their collective hate and lack of any common sense or education has shown us that not only live and work in this state but those across the country and the world how bigoted and back words and ignorant they really are. I have no hope for a future now! Not in this state. They(the people of VA) have taken away my right to appoint the person I have been with for 14 years as my go to guy if anything were to happen to me. I have been told because I am gay we(the people of VA) hate you and want you and those whom love you to suffer just because we HATE you and wish you were no more. They voted out of fear and hatred and not with an educated view. Most more and likely never stopped to ask themselves what if I were on the other side of this, would I want this passed. What if I were told I could not see my husband or wife simply because we were not related by blood. How would I feel if I weren't allow to will my worldly possessions to the one I love simple because we are not related by blood. The list goes on and on...
It is funny because if this were turned around and written to disallow African Americans to marry or marry into interracial marriages, it would never had passed. Oh WAIT that did happen. All the same rhetoric was thrown out but it was overturned because others had enough common sense to see how illogical it truly was. But then again I was not born African American I was born gay. Though some okay A LOT think I chose to be gay they are so very wrong. I would never choose to be hated simply because of who I am.
I am so very tired of fighting others for my rights:(

Though I agree with you, it all boils down to the principle of the thing. Why should I as a tax paying law abiding citizen be chased from my HOME that I have built up and made, well a home for the two of us.

Why should other's hatred force me to flee from a state I have lived in for 20 some odd years. They wouldn't want that, HELL they wouldn't roll over and let that happen. Why should we?

And one must remember it takes money and A LOT to up and move. Most of our money has been and still is tied up with the house. Let us not forget about jobs and friends and family and all that entails.

I have never fear for my future so much as I do now...
 
Where have you been? Its been this way for two years, since they got rid of the right to contract in virginia if it gets to near "marriage benefits" now they enshrined it in the Virginia consitution :(
 
but thats the thing like the supprters here in colorado said its not about marriage its plain human rights they are dealing with. it wont stop here, these kinds of things will kepp goin on the ballot until someday god willing theyu will pass. i am lucky and work for a company that realizes that 1/2 of their employees are gay so i am lucky enought to have same partner benfits i just hope this doesnt change that.
 
We need to remember these days, brothers, that most of the world outside the USA is homophobic--at least as far as the Laws on the books in the various countries.
It might take ten years but if we determine to educate our fellow citizens politely, informédly but relentlessly we can make of the US of A something that it was always meant to be, a union that embraces Human Freedom without exceptions.

One way to speed things up---this is wisdom, Boys---be vigilant for the freedom and dignity of others more oppressed than we are. For starters, this can be as simple as telling them "I care."

I have to agree. Every day I realize and enjoy the luck I have to be living in a small but free minded country.

It is sometimes hard to accept that "the land of freedom" is so narrow minded and bigotted.

I really feel for you Lunarus, it must be very hard.
 
When I said "most of the world" I meant the whole world from North Pole to South Pole. I am conscious of you Europeans and I madly love you, love you, love you. Canadians, too. Antipodeans: Loveya upside down all day long. Even South Africa!!! But aside from the above-mentioned, the fact is that if you are caught doing homosexual love in, say, India, you could be looking at some very serious prison time. Almost all of Africa, almost all of Asia, Spanish America, the West Indies, Guyana and Surinam are all places where you can get into serious trouble being yourself. According to the Laws on the books as I said. How those laws are enforced or ignored is another question.
 
Your welcome in Arizona, I have to triple check because I'm still shocked. But Prop 107 the Protect Marriage amendment went down in flames. 67% to 33%. I hoped it wouldn't pass and hold quite a bit of hope, but man I wasn't expecting such a major no vote.
