I lost on Jeopardy

A Tribute to Alex Trebek from Jeopardy!

The shows with Ken Jennings hosting begin airing Monday.

And guess who's following as host? Here's a hint: Today.

Give up?

It's Katie Couric, from that show. Don't look so shocked. She has a Jeopardy! connection; she's given video clues before.

I saw Jeopardy the last two days with Ken Jennings as the guest host. He was pretty good, I think nearly as good as Alex Trebek.

Ken is doing a decent job. He lacks a bit of "personality" but he's get it done.

And guess who else is rumored to guest host? Hint: He's won Celebrity Jeopardy.

It's Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Today's episode had a tie after final jeopardy. They went to a sudden death tie-breaker. I've not seen that happen before.

Ken is getting more comfortable with the hosting. I'm enjoying his episodes.

This surprised me as well. In the past I believe that they brought them both back the next day. I really wanted to see the young guy come back. I think it is really unfair that the young guy's total dropped from $37,600 to only $2,000.

I agree. In fact I was yelling at the TV.

I have only returned to Jeopardy recently after years of not watching. So I didn't know the rule. I was expecting both contestants to come back. And was clearly upset that both did not. The challenger at least should have been able to keep his earnings. The whole affair made the show look miserly and cheap.

I haven't seen that episode yet, I'm a couple episodes behind. But, THAT SUCKS. ENTIRELY. I hope they get a LOT of mail after that! Wouldn't the next show just be a micro-tournament between two winners and a challenger?

I HAVE seen this happen once or maybe twice (I think just once) with the sudden death thing. I'm thinking it might have been last spring. It made me upset to see that happen before, and sad to read it's happened again. I remember ten(?) or so years ago that ALL THREE contestants tied once, I think it was something like $16,000 each. (I also saw one, once, where all three tied for $0!)

Losing $35,600 is so patently unfair. BRING THE TIED CONTESTANTS BACK, DAMMIT!!!! It indeed makes Jeopardy! appear to be VERY cheap. How often do people tie, a couple times a year maybe? If that?

Is the migration of Jeopardy! champions into The Chase relevant to this thread?

I saw it air last night, and I predict its format, for all its overkill on lights and glitz, will not be enough to outweigh the disparity in the rule. The Chaser sits up high, a visually unappealing problem, with the contestants down low.

More importantly, pitting the best trivia champions in the world against mediocre contestants on the show seems to be a big no-no. The first gal they trotted out was abysmally stupid and just guessing at too many things, unsurprisingly losing to Brad.

Perhaps it's ABC's attempt to democratize the appeal, to bring in know-nothings, but I suspect their disadvantage will prove a negative for the show, and that's all before one considers that the inevitable biggest winners on Jeopardy! have all been white males.

BTW, to that last point, this site lists the 25 biggest winners of all time, and I count probably eight that are not white males (guessing purely by phenotypes), none of which were in the top five: https://stacker.com/stories/3112/biggest-winners-jeopardy-history?page=3

There were only two women or so in that eight, and a computer program from IBM.

It would be nice to know how many of the 25 were either gay, bi, or in any way not heterosexual.

I agree Frank. I think they should bring them back as co-champions. I don’t think it’s a matter of them being cheap just a rule that isn’t very fair to the participants.

Just curious, how many got final Jeopardy and the tie breaker right? I got 'em both!

I’m looking forward to seeing Mayim Bialik take a turn. She has a PhD in neuroscience, she’s witty, has a sense of humor and I think her acting skills will give her more of a presence in the spotlight

Have you seen the Chase with the three Jeopardy champs?
