Have you purchased the Blackadder series starring Rowen Atkinson? I think he is brillliant!

If you have not, its a comedy set in different time periods.

One of my favorite quotes is when Lord Blackadder fears he has lost all of his money, he starts to cut his expenses. He does this in part by firing his servant Baldrick. Upon his dismissal, Baldrick says "But my lord, my family has been with your family for over 200 years!" Lord Blackadder replies, "Yes, well so has syphallis. Now get out!"

Great stuff.

I recently bought an early Christmas gift for myself from my local second-hand video store $50. I've been paying it in monthly instalments and finished paying it off this past Monday:

Blackadder
Torchwood
Doctor Who
Are You Being Served?
Blackpool
Graham Norton
Bit of Fry and Laurie

LOVE THEM!!!!

How come noone mentioned Allo Allo.

Thats the ultimate for me. A complete classic. I watch it online weekly.

Living in Britain, I really don't know what you see in our TV, lol!
However, Shameless is a great series. Skins is OK.
I'm more into American shows myself; LOST, Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl.

i have to tell you HS is not how they portray it in gossip girl even the elite high schools i would know i went to a very expensive prep school, it was more like study study study study study, no social life, study study study, prep-exams, prep-SAT, prep-AP okay take 30 tests in two weeks go

I don't like it because I think it's real. I only watched the first episode and fell in love with Penn Badgley.
I like it also because it's so absurd and, like Desperate Housewive, OTT/
.

Black books is one of the funniest sitcoms in years:)

It's interesting, I like British shows because of their writing, and overall great comedic/dramatic timing. Yet when I have chatted with some brits, they say the exact same thing about American television, which I find to be irritating drivel.

I think it's because each country imports the best and most popular shows. So you guys probably don't see our crap and vice versa lol.

Does anyone like The Mighty Boosh?

They released Spaced in Region 1 NTSC a few months back and I bought it on Amazon for $30 and LOVED it. I dunno if it was ever aired on BBC America or anything though.

I also bought the BBC version of the Office because I heard it was good; it was but I much prefer the American version- funnier, more episodes and all the characters get developed.

And of course Planet Earth and Blue Planet are awesome, if that counts ..|

lol... I never got into The Office, I found Ricky Gervais too much... I dont particularly like him =/

BBC Nature documentaries are pretty epic, have you seen Meercat Manor? They managed to turn a documentary into a soap/drama! It was brilliant!!! I need to get it on DVD :D

In terms of comedies that made it over to the UK, I'd have to say Arrested Development is pretty high up on my list of faves!

This is the best TV series that has ever been produced.
Nothing else even comes close to the quality of this.
And the entire series is available on DVD.

I agree that Upstairs Downstairs is a great series. I think the 1967 series The Forsyte Saga, based on the Galsworthy novels was better. It was the last B&W series made by the BBC and is still wonderful.

The PBS station we receive here (WNED TV in Buffalo) used to have 'Britcom nights' and, every Saturday night, it would be nothing but Britcoms from 7 PM until sign-off. I think the programmes got to expensive to buy, though, because they haven't done that for many years not.

I used to watch The Vicar of Dibley religiously (no pun intended) and loved every moment of it. The last episode I saw, though, was the episode in which Gerry announced she was resigning and the bald guy (forget his name) said simply, "Don't go."

It hasn't been broadcast since that I'm aware of and they don't broadcast the other Britcoms anymore, either.

? is Ballykissangel a drama or a comedy. The only knowledge I have of it is from a crossover special with The Vicar of Dibley.

t'was a Drama from what I can remember...

I wonder if Phonejacker is going to be exported...

Yeah same here, British TV is trash, you guys obviously dont get to see anything from ITV! Channel 4 does some pretty good shows but the BBC is hit and miss these days.

Ballykissangel was a drama definately Goldenmunky, but I think it had comedic moments, I am pretty sure it was on on a Sunday night at like 7pm?

I am exactly the same, its not funny watching awkward situations, its just...well...awkward?

Anywho... I do remember Ballykissangel being on TV on sundays around the time of Last of the Summer Wine.

I usually like some awkward situations, but Gervais just takes the michael...
