If you ever say you are "straight acting" that is a copout

Rebuttal? Perhaps you could be clearer then, it sounded like you just restated my point with a "but wait it's not that simple."

Except that, it's not that simple - and, you've really just pointed out one of the major problems with the term; that people try not to be seen as "gay" - as if there is something wrong with that - therefore, acting as something else. One could say, acting as something they clearly aren't.

Nice explanation of my point: people won't want to be accused of being "straight-acting", so they'll adopt mannerisms that really aren't them.

Huh... Do you think it boils down to basic jealousy because some can pull it off and blend in, where others cannot?

Interesting theory.

Actually makes sense! Some people can be a part of the gay community effortlessly, and the others are jealous and make up angry terms to get back at us.

Interesting theory.

There is no "gay community". There are just all the gays who live and let live, and then you guys who are so arrogant it makes the pope look meek and uncertain.

Oh please. That's all you get because that is that ridiculous.

I don't see that either; to put a personal spin on it, i'm perfectly fine being masculine, because I am masculine. Never had to defend such a thing because I'm not putting on an air that it may be exaggerated for fluff and circumstance, nor do I "act" in a degree feminine to keep the accusers at bay, to seem "in tune" with my "gay" side.

I just don't see myself needing a subversively divisive qualifier; masculine says everything straight-acting does without the implication of negativity.

I wonder if there's a way to harness the energy created by angry keystrokes?
These threads might just save the planet.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows?

Yeah, pattern is very repetitive:

Gay Guy: "Straight acting" is a harmful and offensive stereotype.

Straight Acting Guy: Why, what's the big deal?

GG: The big deal is that [giant posts of explanation]

SAG: You are oppressing me/censoring me/telling me what to do!

GG: Um, no, I am saying that [giant posts of explanation]

SAG: You are pretentious/elitist/think you are superior/hypocritical/ignorant!

GG: Er...

*8 pages later*

A Fistful of Randomers: What's the big deal?

GG *facepalm*

/end thread

Ignorance wins.

Same old same old - the side YOU are on (GG in this case) is the only one with valid points and giant pages of explanation. All the SAG points, as made eloquently by Buzzer, Mitchy and others, are dismissed as over-simplified one-line throwaway summaries.

It's as if your admitting anyone else might even have a point would divide the Universe by zero and everyone would surely die. Concede the other side might even be right and God Himself would unravel. You are like the bastard lovechild of Navigaytion, TheHandsomeAsshole and GiancarloC all rolled into one (a little bit of JUB lore for the old-timers there).

They're just like Rush Limbaugh ditto-heads: they can't even see any reality that doesn't fit their fantasy.

¨OMG don´t use ¨straight acting¨, I´m offended¨ *goes crossdressing while listening to the latest Cher album*

1. I don't think most people who don't like it here are offended.

2. I find it funny that some of the people who are ok with the term SA make gay stereotype jabs.

1. I never said that.
2. I didn´t think of it as a stereotype, I know not all gays are into cher and cross dressing.

I was trying to make a point and your answer pretty much proved it, if you think about it. You know, being easily offended over such a stupid thing.

We are going to end up not being allowed to say anything, soon we are all offended by every damn word. You don´t like the term? Don´t use it and stay away from those who do. I bet they won´t miss someone who loses it over why should or shouldn´t we use this expression, either.
