Since the 1970s when Cher (an Armenian-American) was running around in an Indian headdress singing "Half-Breed", it seems like everyone wants to claim they were "part Indian".To me her being only 1/1024 Cherokee is a non issue. As I said in my earlier post, most families have legends about someone back in the family tree.
I remember a girl in school telling us that her "high cheekbones" were because of her "Indian blood". Never mind that she was a fair skinned, blonde haired, blue eyed woman. She was convinced that this one physical trait- her cheekbones- could be attributed to some vague ancestor that she didn't name.
Let me ask the question that no one seems to be asking: Why was there a question about race on the application for the State Bar of Texas in 1986? They didn't ask about gender nor ethnicity. But they did ask about race?
