She does realize its 2009 and not 1999...no one cares anymore. Though it does sound similar to her interviews shown on Will Smith's E! True Hollywood story, so at least she knows how to hold on to a grudge.

In the stuff I've seen/read, everyone else from the show always has positive things to say about Will & none of them have had any more or less post-Fresh Prince success than Hubert. ***And Carlton easily rivaled Will as fan favorite. Hillary and Jeffery were pretty funny too.

I prefer the second Aunt Viv anyway. Now if this was the 1st Harriet on Family Matters, it'd be another story...

LOL! I just couldn't get with the second Aunt Viv. I was too used to the original. The second one just didn't seem right. I preferred the ORIGINAL Aunt Viv! I hate when cast members in sitcoms get changed because you have to get used to a new person all over again and it just doesn't seem right. #-o Just like when they changed the BECKY on Roseanne.

P.S. someone had told me a long time ago that she had died...from cancer I think it was. Wow -- glad to know she didn't!

Wow, someone has been very bitter for a very long time. Someone also probably should have taken a writing class or two before deciding to pen her memoirs.

And, I agree, the first Becky on Roseanne was better. I never minded the Aunt Viv switch on Fresh Prince because they didn't really change the character. But with Becky, they turned her into a complete ditz when they cast Sarah Chalke. It did, however, lead to some really funny moments when they'd allude to the recasting on-screen. I especially liked when the original Becky came back for a season and in her first episode back, Darlene asked her "where the hell have you been?".

I never took issue with the Family Matters situation because by the time they racast the character, the show was WAY past its prime and had become ridiculous. Plus, it had switched networks, which is never a good move. Having a new Harriet was the least of its problems.

And I do agree that the new Aunt Viv wasn't quite as strong of a character, but I don't think it hurt the show that much. What really bothered me was when they aged the baby and he was suddenly six years old after being an infant in the previous season. That's always a really low-brow way to add a cute kid to the cast and officially jump the shark. They did it on Step By Step, too.

Lol, probably not. I barely remember who she is.

I don't think he was ever really involved though. I think it had more to do with Janet Hubert's ego. Here she is, an established actress in her own right getting pushed to the side by this big eared punk kid rapper with no real acting experience. Too bad for her, everyone liked Will and could care less whether or not she should be more of a star on the show.

Bingo

I'm pretty sure that's word for word what Uncle Phil (the actor) said in Will's E! True Hollywood Story. Difference being, he either didn't have a huge problem with it or was eventually able to let it go.

I'm thinking it was a situation where initially Hubert thought it was going to be an ensemble "Cosby-esque" show where parents & kids alike were given a chance to shine; but with the parents still at the forefront. And when Will became 'the star'? Insert her said ego.

Thank you for informing me that there was a replacement Harriet on Family Matters. I never knew that!

Uhmm I mean Will WAS the main star of the show as far as I remember. From a marketing standpoint (in 1999) it makes perfect sense even if one was better actors than then other.

But yeah 10 years later noone really cares.

i thought it was kinda funny Family Matters ending up on CBS after poking fun at the station right before the jump. the characters were having trouble sleeping, and decide to see what's on CBS. as soon as the click to the channel they all pass out.

i loved the old aunt viv, she was the SHIT as someone before rightly said... it was precisely after her departure that i kinda stopped looking at Fresh Prince.. it just wasn't the same.. But, c'mon they wouldn't have even had that job if it wasn't for will smith, the show was created around him, and sure whatever will wanted, he got.. but showbiz is like that.. it's unfair..

I didn't either.

And I didn't even know the show went to another network.

News to me.

What family matters had a new harriet? news 2 me 2.
And i hated when they casted the new Becky on RoseAnn but the show poked fun of it remember the ep when John goodman played a grown up zoned out Dj "they say she's the same but she's not the same" Roseann was hilarious

I actually believe her i can tell that Will has a huge ego and loves being the center of attention but his funniness and laid back attitude covers it all so no one can really tell but I love him anyway.
I missed the old Aunt Viv 2 the new one did nothing 4 me and as sum1 said she did balance out the fact that the sum kids were light and sum dark.

Why now? I doubt anyone even cared than. Isn't this how the business works? Did people think Will got to be a mega star without stepping on some toes? She must be watching too much nick at nite. Brought back all the memories.

Was never a fan of this show to me it was more the Fresh Prick from BelAir. Will was always playing horny stud out to conquer the world.

I was young when this show was on and didn't even realize there had been a previous Aunt Viv until the reruns became popular, so I always liked the 2nd one better.

It seemed like the other cast members got along well. Will Smith promoted Tatiana Ali's career like mad back in the day.

I remember seeing a Family Matters rerun a couple years ago with the new Harriett and the whole time I was thinking it was some sort of dream sequence lol. I hadn't realized they replaced her in the last season.

They also replaced the daughter on Dr. Quinn after the show had established itself. I never got used to the new one.

Well, no show did the actor/actress replacement like one of my favorite shows, "Bewitched". There were several cast changes throughout the duration of the show.

I slightly digress. I liked both Viv's, but Janet's did seem more assertive (or liberated for that matter).
