JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's black!"

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

You're fast.

Well, I stand by what I said. You're entitled to think whatever you want.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

He has yet to do anything?

He became the nation's first black President. That's quite an accomplishment. I don't think anyone's blind to the fact that he just started the job and we all know it's too early to call it a success. More than anything, people are just trying to be optimistic and celebrate a very historic moment in US history. JMO.
That's good but it's certainly not enough to deserve all this praise. I think it's ridiculous to give him so much credit for something so technical like the color of his skin. It shows the country is a lot more accepting, but let's see how HE does his job for like a year.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

I think it's ironic that so many black people (not all) are saying that he's "black" when in fact he is only half. In my high school (which had a large percentage of black students), mixed people were usually made fun of by black people.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

It's not about entitlement. You accused some of us of praising him without merit and I provided proof that he has done things (in only two days I might add) to deserve praise, thereby refuting your statement. So no, you can't just fall back on "Oh well." You were just wrong.
Um, my statement still stands. What you mentioned isn't that big of a deal to me. I don't take back anything, I just know discussing politics is useless most of the time.

BTW, I meant he was trendy among celebrities, celebrity-obsessed people, etc. Not necessarily people in this thread. I didn't read past the first page.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

This is the argument that makes me laugh the most. There was always a one drop rule in this country historically and everyone knows it. To the dominant culture (read: white) you are black even if you're part black. You can call yourself biracial or mixed or what have you, but to everyone else, YOU'RE BLACK.

Black people don't necessarily consider you black if you're mixed. They do in Obama's case. But I've encountered many mixed people that have been looked down on by the same people who are praising Obama. I'm not applying this to all people of these respective cultures, but there are definitely parts who do this.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

Yes it's more complicated amongst people of color, but that's why I said: "To the dominant culture (read: white) you are black even if you're part black."

Also, this part of my statement remains relevant:

I'm not talking about the dominant culture or their feelings on mixed people. I personally don't care if he's white, mixed, or black. I'm just saying there's an irony there, in this blind praising. Doesn't have to do with white people at all.
If you didn't go to high school in the states, then you probably weren't around young African American culture in the southern US, which is what I'm referring to. And again, not saying that all of those people are guilty of this, but some are.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

That isn't just exclusive to black people, people of mixed heritage face just as much hell and grief from white people as well.

I definitely agree. This case just shows a big double-standard.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

I am so sick and tired of this statement, I don't know what to do. How do these two loudmouths reflect on the entire African American community? If it was offensive for Jay to put George W. Bush and the entire white race into one big melting pot, how does this make your argument against it any better?

Umm it's pretty much like this with any minority. It's called stereotyping. Look at gay people. I live around a lot of stupid conservative people who anytime they see one gay person on TV saying or doing something stupid they think it represents all of us. That's why I always cringe when I see something like that because I know ignorant people will use it against the whole community. It's the same with black people. Of course these two guys don't speak for the entire black community but they have a lot of fans who listen to their music and that definitely says something about the fans. So really, Im only saying that ignorant people will use little things like this as a validation for their false views, so it would probably be better for rappers to accept a little bit of responsibility and clean it up a bit. Also look at someone like Oprah, who has achieved so much and in a lot of ways represents successful black people. And now we have Obama who will forever represent the black community because of what he's achieved. But again it's like this with any minority. When someone of a minority group gains fame, whether good or bad, it gets a lot of attention.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

I disagree with that. Why should the comments of a select few reflect on the community as a whole? It certainly shouldn't.

It shouldn't but sometimes it does, especially when you're dealing with minorities. People tend to lump them all together. Sort of like how a lot of people think all gays are promiscuous. A lot of idiots think black people are uneducated and ignorant, and people like Jay-z and Jeezy only help make their case because they have a huge black following who look up to them.

Umm you can site the last two days but people have been praising him for months even when he really hadn't done anything.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

And I say any person who wastes their time stereotyping an entire group of people just b/c a few bad apples' actions and words; then that says more about their lack of intellect and the kind of person they are.

Yep you're right but I'm guessing we've all had to deal with it.

If Obama had robbed a bank at gunpoint, everyone would be saying "Black Man Robs Bank!" But now that he's President, all these people are like, "Oh but he's only HALF black."

LMAO! Gotta love America and JUB especially. Please guys, never change. You're even more predictable than Oscar voters losing their shit for a Holocaust film. That kind of stability is reassuring.

Thats like what Wanda Sykes said about Tiger Woods!

"As soon as he turned pro and he won his first tournament, I read, 'Bi-racial golfer wins first tournament.' Oh, OK -- 50/50: he's 50% black, 50% Asian. Alright, cool. Then after he won the masters, I'm flipping through Sports Illustrated, and I read, 'Tiger Woods is a quarter black,' and I'm like, 'Damn, he's down to 25% now, man. What the hell is going on? They're treating him like he's milk. You know, whole milk, half milk, 2%. But you know as soon as he does something wrong, what will we read? 'Black golfer arrested'!"

If that wasn't enough, he calls himself an African American.

One genius on the political forum said he Obama isn't an African American because his dad wasn't a descendant of slaves.

The things you read. Only on JUB.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

I'm sure they are very happy about finally having a black president, but they can express their happiness in a more respectful way. Obama being the first black president is very serious stuff, so to diminish it with crude language is immature and ignorant. There is a time and place for everything, and if they want to say that stuff in their music then fine, but when it comes to this, it's inappropriate and they need to learn to grow up. They make black people look bad.

Jay-Z and & Jeezy are two individuals who happen to be black rappers. They do not represent all rappers or all black people -- period. If people want to discuss what those people said and did, fine, but it has nothing to do with all black people.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

You're just proving my point. Other than being black, HE has yet to do anything as a president to deserve all this praise.

What he's accomplished so far in life is deserving of admiration and pride. He values education and graduated magna cum laude from an ivy league school. He was president of Harvard Law Review. He is obviously intelligent and a hard worker. He chose to work as a civil rights lawyer which indicates caring about the people and he worked as a community organizer as well. He has always supported equality for everyone. Throughout the campaign, his character was revealed when he chose not to personally attack but stick with the facts and the issues. Although it seems that most people expect politicians to be liars or corrupt, Obama has not been proven to be either. That makes him refreshing. During the campaign his two biggest opponents -- Hillary and John -- were caught in many lies and flip flops. Obama has been consistent. Obama is the American dream with the love between him and his wife and two children. They worked hard to get to where they are and he worked hard to become president. There's nothing not to admire or praise about this man. Because of his consistency, honesty, rational demeanor, knowledge and intelligence, this is the man we've chosen to lead the country.

Being black is the icing on the cake.

Funny that all rappers seem to talk like that isn't it?

A lot of people go to good schools, are very intelligent, and are in a good relationship with beautiful kids, but it doesn't mean they deserve to be president if a year before the election they are a virtually unknown amateur.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

Funny that all rappers seem to talk like that isn't it?

All rappers aren't cut from the same cloth which is the point I've made repeatedly in this thread, so no, your false assessment isn't 'funny'.

Re: JAY Z: "No more white lies, my President's bla

A lot of people go to good schools, are very intelligent, and are in a good relationship with beautiful kids, but it doesn't mean they deserve to be president if a year before the election they are a virtually unknown amateur.

"Deserving" to be president is different from being admirable and recieving praise and I was discussing the latter. The majority of the country decided that he did deserve to be president and further discussing it would be a moot point.
