Pop diva Lady Gaga on Sunday cancelled her Indonesian concert with promoters saying the security threat was too serious after Islamic hardliners promised "chaos" if she entered the Muslim nation.

"Lady Gaga's management has considered the situation minute to minute, and with threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga's side is calling off the concert," Minola Sebayang, lawyer for promoters Big Daddy, told reporters.

"This is not only about Lady Gaga's security, but extends to those who will be watching her."

Earlier this month Jakarta police refused approval for the show after the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) threatened violence if Lady Gaga performed, calling her a "devil's messenger" who wears only a "bra and panties".

More than 50,000 tickets had been sold for the event at the Bung Karno Stadium, but FPI Jakarta chairman Habib Salim Alatas said the cancellation was "good news" for Muslims in Indonesia.

"FPI is grateful that she has decided not to come. Indonesians will be protected from sin brought about by this Mother Monster, the destroyer of morals," he told AFP. "Lady Gaga fans, stop complaining. Repent and stop worshipping the devil. Do you want your lives taken away by God as infidels?"

The FPI has about seven million followers and has been known to raid pubs and clubs.

This has been one of the hot news in my place lately and finally it is called off.
Most of my friend (most of whom are Muslims) are disappointed of the protesters, calling their actions stupid and brainless.

I only fear this is only the tip of the iceberg...

Lady Gaga Cancels Indonesia Show Amid Threats of Violence​

Lady Gaga has canceled her concert in Jakarta, Indonesia after Islamic hardliners threatened violence, the Associated Press reports.

The concert, scheduled for June 3rd at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, had sold out its 52,000 tickets, though it has been a question for some time whether Lady Gaga would receive the required permits for the event to go on.

Now a group called the Islamic Defenders Front, calling the singer "a messenger of the devil," has claimed that its supporters had bought tickets to the show and planned to stop the performance from within the venue. They also said that thousands of protesters would confront Lady Gaga at the airport if she entered the country.

Officials said they would issue permits only if the singer toned down the controversial elements of the Born This Way Ball. Lady Gaga and her promoters declined to change the act.

"With threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga's side is calling off the concert," Minola Sebayang, a lawyer for concert promoter Big Daddy, told the Associated Press. "This is not only about Lady Gaga's security, but extends to those who will be watching her."

Another representative for Big Daddy said that ticketholders would be fully refunded.

It is a shame, Gaga is so uplifting and positive, I really love her, I know I'm in the minority here, but I think she's amazing, sad for the little monsters who will miss her

It's a shame that the FPI with an estimated following of 7million has the power to dictate to the other 131million adults in Indonesia. That said, like all other religions, Muslims don't tend to rise up against the extremist nut-jobs that give their religion a bad name. Whilst Lady GaGa doesn't have 'demi-god' status in my life, I feel bad for the 50,000 fans that will miss out on a couple of hours of great entertainment and the life-affirming positive vibes that the concert would have given them.

The mosques' members occlude the streets every day demanding money only to build yet another mosque.
Some beliefs even require no donations as the members give whatever they have for the sake of their irrationally stern faith.
The same applies with most religions here - even certain extreme Buddhists. Well, the major exception is Hinduism.

The news is exactly like the articles you can find easily online. Some points which are not in the articles anyway:
-FPI was appalled to find they were one of FEW who thinks Gaga was a blasphemous figure.
-They 'brag' about rejecting other international celebrities which they found to be vulgar and porn-reenacting if not diabolical.
-They also 'brag' about protesting EVERYTHING they found not in line with their views.
-They said they always observed foreign people who were about to have concert/exhibitions - they even claimed they had several Gaga CDs and MVs for observational purposes
-Other activitist (FUI - Islamic Forum) agreed about banning Gaga albeit they claimed not to be as radical as FPI, based on the MVs they watched on YouTube
-Both also condemned Irshad Manji, which they claimed to be blasphemous due to her view that one can be GLBT while still being loyal to God



Anyway, listening to the talk show, I've wasted twenty minutes of my life

Not really a fan of hers but some songs, but it's their loss.

There have been protests in mainly countries mostly populated by (Indonesia and Philippines) or controlled by (South Korea) people who profess to a fundamentalist strain of an Abrahamic religion.

At least in gay friendly Republic of China (AKA Taiwan) and Japan, there have been no huge protests.
