Warner Bros. Pictures and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a a reboot of "Tomb Raider," the popular video game action franchise featuring Lara Croft.

Paramount previously made the two movies based on the game, but the rights have since reverted to Eidos. When Time Warner upped its stake to 19.92% in Eidos in December, films rights to the property were included as part of the deal.

Lin will produce the project via his Lin Pictures while Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce; Ian Livingstone of Eidos will executive produce.

The new project, however, is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.

As an open-writing assignment, the project is still in its nascent stages. An actress who could play the role Angelina Jolie made famous would likely come on after a writer and director are attached.

Angelina should play the role again. She's desperately in need of a hit.

was a complete reboot needed...its not like the first two movies were "The Hulk" bad....now that movie stank

i'm confused....those movies were actually good.

why does every damn movie have to be remade.

like wtf! seriously. can movies just can't have their place for AT LEAST 50 years lol.

They want to try Superman Returns again which is coming out in 2011 and bring him down to as dark as Batman Returns and that one I BET MY LIFE will fail.

i don't understand hollywood sometimes....

I'm glad they're doing Superman over again...just wish they'd get rid of Brandon Routh while they're at it....and a dark toned Superman movie makes no sense....unless they do a Reign of the Supermen movie...I would love to see that...and finally have some redemption for Steel

The films aren't bad, they're par for the game to film genre course. The biggest shame is the game franchise, which for all its new bells and whistles is rapidly going down hill thanks to its awkwardness and unabashed ripping off of other similar franchises.

Yes, Lara's chest is lovely in a barbie-proportined way, but the camera needs to stop giving you voyeuristic camera shots and focus on the tigers mauling her to death as she gets stuck in another corner.

Was Returns that much of a flop? I really hate this reboot idea... I mean Superman is not meant to be a dark character... he is not Batman! Batman is supposed to be dark but not Superman! I mean why not just make a sequel with a more dangerous enemy? That's probably what people would prefer over a giant rock destroying the city.

I thought that the Tombraider movies were decent, but nothing to special. If no new talent can be found, I definitely say put Angelina in the roll, just because she has the experience with it.

BATMAN RETURNS was not a flop at all. It earned $162.83 million domestically and $266.83 million worldwide. [Adjusted for inflation, I don't know how much that would be as I suck at math.] It just didn't do as well as BATMAN ($251.2 million domestically and $411.35 million worldwide), but a hit nonetheless. Also, it suffered a parental backlash due to its violence and sexual references and overall darker tone.
