Pilot News: "Boone" Is a Vampire, Trachtenberg Has Mercy
By Matt Mitovich Thu Mar 26, 1:41 PM PDT

Well, at least this time he won't be the first to die. Ian Somerhalder, who as an original cast member of Lost played ill-fated Boone, has joined the cast of Vampire Diaries, the CW pilot based on a series of young adult novels.

Somerhalder will play one of two vampire brothers vying for the attention/sweet neck of Nina Dobrev's central heroine, Elena.

Also on board for Vampire Diaries are Katerina Graham (playing Elena's BFF) and Friday Night Lights' Zach Roerig (as Elena's ex).

Other PYTs landing pilots this week include Gossip bad girl Michelle Trachtenberg (as one of three nurses at the heart of NBC's Mercy) and What I Like About You's Allison Munn (in an untitled NBC comedy http://tv.yahoo.com/lost/show/36617/news/urn:newsml:tv.tvguide.com:20090326:1004435__ER:1

That'll be interesting...

Yet another Degrasssi alumn making their way to the CW - Nina Dobrev plays Mia. She's also 19 and Somerhalder is early thirties...

I'll be so jealous if she gets frequent make out scenes with him

I dont care for Somerhalder after his disparaging remarks about his gay character in Rules of Attraction. I'm not impressed with Nina Dobrev either. It's kinda sad that lamest girls from Degrassi are the only ones making it big. Poor Cassie Steele should have been the breakout star of that lot. I think she's too ethnic for hollywood.

He's probably on the defensive because he just has that gay look. I kept expecting his character on Lost to have a daddy thing with Locke...

If We Reference The Same Comments - I Agree With Ian That It Was Blown Out Of Proportion. The Comments I Read Referred To His Kissing Another Guy And Not Particularly Liking It - Specifically Because Of The Other Guy's Facial Stubble. I Never Heard Or Read That He Expanded That Dislike To Men Who Do Like Smoochin'. Such Distaste For What We Consider Wonderful Doesn't Make Him Homophobic - It Only Makes Him Str8.

I heard his comments with my own ears. I dont know if you read the quote somewhere. It's on the Rules of Attraction DVD commentary. Everything he says and his tone is unnecessary. He didnt say it was awkward or uncomfortable because of the stubble. He said kissing a person with stubble was just WRONG and that 2 guys should not kiss.

In his tone he described it as if it was so repulsive and he made it a point to explain that they did it one take and he didnt have to endure the torture of kissing James Van Der Beek more than once. Ian also remind us throughtout how straight he is by mentioning his girlfriend randomly. James Van Der Beek described the same scene as not a big deal and said Ian was so pretty anyways.I was indifferent to Somerhalder before but he's an insecure piece of shit. If he had such a problem with being a gay character who partakes in 2 really tame kisses he shouldnt have fuckin did it. No one put a gun to his head.

Maybe some people like to accept certain behaviors from straight guys just because they think they are hot or whatever but I definitely do not.

*Sigh*

So pretty on the outside, so shallow and ugly on the inside....

Ahh well....

Well, as I've said elsewhere, I'm sick to death of straight actors complaining when they have to do a gay love scene. I don't care what their excuse is, and they always have one. But what it's really about is making sure the public knows they're NOT REALLY GAY.

And anyway, when are we going to start seeing gay actors playing gay characters? Not counting indie films and bit parts, I can't think of very many...

Come on, we're not completely stupid out here. We know that an actor's not necessarily gay because they play a gay character. Actually it's usually the reverse.

And rumors about somebody being gay don't need a gay portrayal to get started. Tom Cruise -- has he ever played a gay character? He even made them take the gayness out of his character in Interview with a Vampire. But the rumors just won't stop.
