Mariah or Whitney?

There are rumors that Mariahs new cd will be pushed back yet again. After the first single 'Obsessed' flopped, they are nervous.

Really? Have you checked the sales/airplay charts lately? Hardly a flop. In fact, it's steadily gaining on Top 40, with an increase of over 500 spins. It's doing well on Rhythmic AND Urban. So if you consider this a flop, you need to do more research on what a "flop" is.
The last three singles from E=MC2 flopped, so it's not like radio was just going to play the hell out of her new single right off the bat. It's actually becoming a very solid hit.

If we're going simply by which song sounds better (ie, I Look to You VS Obsessed), than Obsessed wins due to the production. The music is great. Mariah sounds cute but she isn't showcasing vocal talent on the song.

If we're going by vocals on each song (which is an actual Whitney VS Mariah), then I gotta give it to Whitney.

I feel like this is more an "Obsessed" VS "I Look to You" than a "Mariah" VS "Whitney". I'm gonna have to give it to Mariah and Obsessed. Like it's been mentioned already, Obsessed is much more entertaining, due to the production. The music is great. Mariah isn't showcasing much vocal talent on the song, but she sounds cute, and somehow she still sounds better than Whitney on I Look to You.

Whitney would sing circles around Mariah.

I don't know about that now... Whitney's voice has really been damaged. Mariah can't sing like she used to, but girl can still belt (ie, "Be Mine"), and sounds good.

Both of their voices are damaged, that's clear. Whitney was always a better performer than Mariah, but I don't think Whitney has the better voice, all around. I would give that to Mariah.

I agree on the first statement. On the second statement, it depends on what some prefer. Whitney had more depth and complexity in her tone as well as being slightly more powerful; obviously, Mariah had Whitney in the overall range department.

*Pokaman now departs from the thread*

I like both of these ladies. I prefer Mariah's music and sound more but I have loved me some Whitney back in that day. I hope she is successful with her new album but I am looking forward to Mariah's "Angel" more. Mariah consistently puts out quality albums that I enjoy. I really didn't like the samples I have heard so far off of "I look to you" enough to buy it. With that said, they are both musical legends that no current artist can touch IMO.

It's Whitney, bitch.

Who cares if you like Mariah or Whitney better. They're both doing their thing. If you still dress like you're 14 and enjoy lyrics about "Windex," Mariah's your girl. We could have lost Whitney Houston, just like we lost Michael, but she's here and she's fighting to get her life back. Enjoy the ride, no matter who your fav is...

Oh yeah, because Mariah's ENTIRE musical catalog of two decades boils down to one song where she happens to mention said cleaning agent. Give me a break.

If you want to put Whitney on a pedestal, fine, but don't try and tear Mariah down in the process. You're setting yourself up for failure.

Are you being serious? I'm really not worried about failure in this particular situation. Seems like the lambs are a bit rattled these days. :)

"...lyrics about 'Windex,'[...]"

What? I thought you were joking. Does she really have a song about Windex? Which song is that?

I'm still trippin' about, "Them chickens is ash and I'm lotion." LMAO!

Well in my opinion Mariah is TERRIBLE in all aspects. I dont reckon she is as attractive as people make her out to be, her 'singing' sound like shreiking and she is just completely talentless.

So definately Whitney. God love her :P

Well in my opinion Mariah is TERRIBLE ... she is just completely talentless.

That right there just destroyed any credibility you MIGHT have had. People don't like Mariah, but to call her talentless, is just plain uneducated on your behalf.

That right there just destroyed any credibility you MIGHT have had.

This coming from someone who wrote "Whitney's binge recovery time," and has a banner of Mooriah's ugly ass navel. You sir, are the Queen of Credibility.

LMAO...right.

Another new Whitney song, called "Salute":

HOT!!! Lots of attitude, hard hitting beat and Whitney sounds fierce. :gogirl: And the vocals are much better than the vocals on "Obsessed". This track shits on that song.

I prefer Whitney, she's just gorgeous! Look at that mug!

Sexykev, you ARE aware, correct, that that large photo of her you posted has been photochopped and screwed? That picture is a remix, NOT the original. Airbrush much? Adobe picture editing much?

Mariah Carey: Is her PR team trying to spin Whitney Houston?

Whitney Houston: Unlike Mariah, she actually has talent.

Mariah Carey is in "Glitter" mode again. As her career comes crashing down, her PR team is using a recently fired Fox News gossip columnist to tell us that "Obsessed" never really was a single, despite the fact that it has been advertised as one.

In the past, Mariah has been accused of using shady gossip columnists to give other singers bad publicity. This became very evident today when after weeks of bad publicity, the New York Daily News suddenly comes up with this article, which not only contains several factual errors, but sounds like something written by Mariah's publicity team.

The most noticeable and ridiculous part of the article is how it puts down Whitney Houston. It claims that Whitney Houston should be thankful that there is no showdown with Mariah because Whitney's single, "I Look to You" has received lukewarm reception and only debuted at number 74 while "Obsessed" debuted at number 11. What it doesn't claim is the truth: "I Look to You" has had a very good (maybe not excellent) response and as Whitney Fans pointed out on this column a few weeks back, the song was given away for free before it appeared on iTunes. If it wasn't given away for free, more people would have bought it from iTunes, causing the song to debut higher.

"Obesessed" debuted at number 11 because Mariah repressed downloads of the single (something that should become illegal) for three weeks after the song was released to radio. The song fell like a stone the week after. Does the Gatecrasher column actually have a fact checker? Apparently not! But that doesn't matter since they are obviously trying to spin all the bad publicity Mariah has received recently.

Furthermore, there really is no competition between Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. For one thing, Whitney Houston (even though she doesn't sing anything like she used to) is a real talent. Mariah Carey, as revealed by recent performances, can't sing if her life depended on it. Dog whistling and pig howling are not singing. Whitney Houston, unlike Mariah Carey, can make an emotional connection with her songs. Let's hope that Whitney Houston never uses the desperate public relations tactics that Mariah Carey uses.
