Mariah or Whitney?

I've always thought Mariah's was due to releasing an album every year for ten years straight, touring with each album, and dozens of performances of each single from each album year after year. First off, anyone who "studies" a performance to see if its live or not, is a fucking moron. Second, its OBVIOUS when she lipsyncs to most INCLUDING fans. So don't group people together like that. There ARE delusional fans that believe everything is always live, but the majority don't. So get your FACTS straight first.

i agree that part of the reason why mariah's voice deteriorates is because of her 1 album a year deal back in the 90s....and with touring and live performances, that have got to take a toll..i'm surprised no one else thought of that. but then again, we all heard that she allegedly drink alot and ppossibly not take good care of her vocals. i mean, her style changes to more r & b and that gives her more excuse to be lazy since why put effort when you can digitallly enhance your voice with jsut breathy tone. nevertheless, she is a harworking girl and i loved all her albums, and i wouldn't go as far as calling the original poster moronic for the observation, lol, he's just a fan of reba.

but hey, good things must ocme to an end some day,, they wont have that top notch voice forever. look at maria callas' last performance, it was cringe worthy, but it's the effor that counts. :) and yes i know callas is not the same as the pop singers, but i think my point is clear.

yeah i agree, no matter what, even the biggest of whitney supporter saw what drugs did to her. no i don't think it's a cheap shot to bring that up. it's valid. it's not a rumour, it's true and she even went public with it.

During the 80's Reba even released two albums a year at times. She released an album or two every year from 1979 to 1992, and has released 8 studio albums since then.

It had EVERYTHING to do with the discussion - I was stating a fact that Whitney did not tour for several years due to her addiction. How is that unrelated to the topic matter?!

Clearly, you are a huge Reba fan. There's nothing wrong with that at all. However, Mariah and Whitney were on a different level of singing as far as their abilities were concerned. It's not a matter of style choices; Reba simply could not outsing them in any way. To her credit, Reba does have a great tone for singing, but her voice is not anything beyond the norm.

If releasing an album every year was the cause of Mariah's voice to deteriorate then Aretha's voice should have been shot in 1966 before Respect came out. Back then they released two albums a year,toured,did TV appearances and so on. I really think some people's voices can handle hard singing better than others.

I love me some Whitney Houston and I wish I could blame the fact that she's currently a hot mess on age but alas I cannot. Crack is wack and fucked Whitney's shit up. I still love her though, which is why I choose to remember Whitney circa 1992...

Hmmm. Mariah and Celine....those two often and frequently lipsynch. Mariah moreso than Celine. But I wouldn't put either of them in the same league as Whitney, when it comes to "LIVE" singing (and performing; also when it comes to stage presence and charisma...but that's a whole 'nother story..)

They are real singers to a certain extent, Celine moreso than Mariah, but not quite in the same league..
