This kind of a random topic. But I'm snowed in and my roommate is gone.

I realized there were a lot of movies that Ive seen recently on DVD that seemed too terrible to see in theaters, but were actually good.

Two recent ones were She's the Man with Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes. Most teen movies nowadays are terrible. But it's pretty good i think.

And Grandma's Boy. it is hysterical. One of the funniest things Ive seen in a while. there really isnt anyone that famous in it. But it's full of a lot of guys that are in Adam Sandler movies, except Adam Sandler.

Anybody got others?

Speed Racer.

The Happening. After everyone said it was the worst movie ever, and the fact that I've never seen an M. Night movie I liked, I expected to hate it. But I was pleasantly surprised. Mark Wahlberg was awful, but I've never thought of him as a good actor anyway.
The death scenes were frightening, and the concept (plants vs. man) was kinda cool.
I think everyone expected some big twist in the end, and when they didn't get one, they cried.

^Yes. I loved the Happening. I didnt mention it because it seemed like it would be good from previews and it was good imo. It was funny to see Mark all nerdy. Not sure why so many people didnt like it. I think people have weird expectations for m. Night's movies and when it isn't exactly what they expected it to be they say it was bad. The only movie of his i didnt love was the village because of the ending. But everything else about it was really good to me.

I think you hit it right on the head. I sat down to watch it with NO expectations at all, and liked it. All my friends who saw it and hated it are also fans of his, and I think they expected a masterpiece. :)

Another movie is Alexander. When it came out it got terrible reviews and everyone I knew who saw it thought it was boring and really bad. So I didn't go see it, even though I was always interested in Alexander The Great.
When I saw it on DVD I was floored. I couldn't believe I passed up seeing such a beautiful film on the big screen. And was it too long? No, IMO it wasn't long enough! I brought the extended version when it was released on DVD. An added bonus to the extended edition: more man on man action. Sadly no love scenes with Colin and Jared though.

Showgirls.

Burn After Reading - it is a delicious romp with the Coen Brothers with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John Malcovich, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton.

JCVD - just saw it. am not a fan of jean-claude but he went up 10 fold in acting ability and style imo after seeing this one.

Josie and the Pussycats - i loved the product placement of the film...

The Final Destination series - the whole thing is stupid but i love it, only waiting for peoples death... Its sorta ironic, playing at the fact that with most horror movies, you find yourself thinking about who is going next and how they'll die.
