Museum Field Trip Deemed Too Revealing - Teacher's Job Lost

This is from my area. What was reported on the news here was that the teacher was suspended because of the field trip, nothing else. It has angered a lot of people(on behalf of the teacher) and shows the complete lack of support of teachers from the administration. What is unclear is why the parent has any say whatsoever. The trip was approved and permission forms were received. If the parent was too dense to realize nude statues or paintings would be seen at an art museum, then that's their fault, not the schools, and certainly not the teacher's.

Suspended WITH pay. Like that is a punishment?

I wish they did that in the real business world.
It will seem like a punishment when she has to apply for her next job--after she's fired for showing Manet's Luncheon on the Grass.

And teachers have a union, right? I have a feeling they're not going to be able to make this suspension stick.

But it's still a very frustrating story. I've been American all my life, and I still can't get used to crap like this.

Texas has been building some of the best museums in the country, they have the money, but the populace is often not particularly sophisticated. What is ironic here is that these conservative Republicans are the ones that always complain about the power of the teachers unions.

This is a sad, sad, sad situation. I can believe it, because of the "nut jobs" that are in Texas and the U.S.A., today. Remember, John Ashcroft put "wraps" on the statues in the Justice Department.

That's exactly what I thought of when I read this article! For pete's sake, it's a museum--it's art! It's not like she took these children to an adult bookstore! How ridiculous!!
