  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

need a new book?

how about - island in the sea of time (part 1), against the tide of years, (part 2), on the oceans of eternity (part 3), dies the fire (part 4), the protector war, (part 5) all by S.M. Stirling.

Just finished reading Tulia by Nate Blakeslee about race, drugs, corruption and a horrible injustice eventually corrected. It was a great read.

The lesson of the book is pity the black man that has to stand before a west Texas jury.

"A la recherche du temps perdu" by Marcel Proust takes the biscuit for a real good read.

If you want something a little more recent try Sarah Waters, particularly "Fingersmith".

If you would like a gay read try Allan Hollingshurst.

If you want to read on the loo the Dan Brown goes down well.

Waving book in the air:Try 'Wicked'It is just good escapist fun with insights into The Wizard of OZ about the fact that there is always another POV.It makes one read it and say 'that's why she did it'.Just fun.

I would suggest A Song For Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay.
Or the Hitchhikers Guide series if you haven't read it. The movie didn't do the book(s) justice at all.

I'm enjoying Vikram Seth's new one: Two Lives. He's a favorite of mine,

My two favorite books are:

1. "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving

2. "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet

Two EXCELLENT books! I highly recommend them.

Elizabeth kostova - the historian

great choice bachatero80!
currently reading it, and it is wonderful. can't wait to read more of it!

Empress Orchid - Anchee Min
a personal favourite .. offers an alternative perspective on the life of China's last Empress. The PRC government demonised her, and banned a lot of works that sympathise with Orchid. Really fascinating novel.

otherwise Kate Mosse - Labyrinth.
think, Da Vinci code .. double the IQ, and throw in a lot of stuff about the Bons Hommes, the Crusaders, and a lush historical french setting! a wonderful read!
