So I friend-ed a cousin of mine on Facebook about five months ago. Why not, I thought. My cousin's a cool bro, what harm could come? :D

My father calls me to inform me that my cousin's parents has apparently browsed his Facebook account and looked at some rather embarrassing photos of me on Facebook. Photos of me in clubs, parties and some dancing in my underwear with a drag queen. !oops!

Soooooooo.....not how I imagined coming out to my aunts and uncles. ](*,)

I think my grandparents may have seen it too. :eek:


So I implore the JUB community.

NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVAAARRRRR add a family member on Facebook.

It only leads to drama. *sigh* ](*,)

that's why if you are adding family members you set it so they can only see a limited profile if you have stuff you don't want them to see. Or you know..don't post that stuff on facebook=)

I should have done that. But I was too lazy....

And my cousin's 18. I didn't actually think his parents would somehow access his FB account.

It's always touchy with FB, the more conservative members of my family have all received limited profiles, but that's as far my censoring myself on FB goes. There are tons of pics on FB of me that I would never want my parents or grandparents or those members of my family to find out about or even see.

Dont put incriminating photos or personal information online. If you do, expect what comes with the territory. I friend all of my family on Facebook. Mother, father, sisters, cousins, all of them. Nosy, yes, but I don't have anything embarrassing or to be ashamed of on there.

I have friended pretty much every member of my family who is on facebook as well as many friends, co-workers and about 12 JUBers. My friends and family know who and what I am so to look at my pictures there are no surprises

First off, what the hell were the parents doing accessing the cousin's Facebook?! Parents that feel the need to snoop into their children's personal life (I think I read he's 18) don't sit very well with me.

As far as I know, none of my family members even have a Facebook account. I'm already out, and the things I do that I wouldn't want them to know aren't even there.

Not on facebook but another social network the same happened to me. I was like "wtf is my mom doing here?" and she said that she saw it on TV and that it was the latest thing with the young folks (that was 2 years after it was created) and wanted to see what this is all about. Actually I don't have any pics up there that are embarassing in any way, but still .. this is my space (no it was not myspace) - so i denied it.
it's enough that she is already nagging me over IM all the time.

I've got plenty of family members on facebook. Then again, the most embarrassing pictures on facebook involve me wearing a silly hat on my birthday, and holding a stuffed alien hostage at the point of a katana.

I think the better advice would be to not post pictures which you would not want your family seeing on the Internet in the first place.
