New Watchmen Feauturette

I am so looking forward to seeing this movie, but I still can't get over the fact that they took the ending to the graphic novel, something that was completely original and had never been seen before and changed it to simply a nuclear explosion that destroys a city (like we haven't seen THAT before in a movie).

Unfortunately, no joke. Check out the imdb boards for watchmen. I was incredibly disappointed that it was changed. When I first heard there was to be a Watchmen movie, the ending scenes in New York were the things I was looking forward to seeing the most (you've never seen anything like it in film before - it's that original), but it's not going to happen, and yes, you are right, that changes the whole damn story.

The original ending was lame. Besides to tell the story on how it happened would have increased the run time by about 30 minutes. If they were to add the 30 minuted in I would prefer it to be of something consequential, not a squid.

Put it this way, which would you rather see: fleshing out of Rorschach's character or why a giant squid?

While I love IMDB and use it religiously, it is still a lot like Wikipedia, and you can't trust EVERYTHING said on the website.

And I just can't believe they would give away the new ending like that. Especially if it was so different to cause an uproar.

I would rather see both. And why would an extra 30 minutes of run time be a bad thing? I would love to see as much of the graphic novel in the movie as possible.

As far as the ending of the graphic novel, nothing like it has ever been seen on film before, but, my god, every summer a new movie comes out where Manhattan is destroyed by a big explosion. We've seen it all before. So, I ask you, which would you rather see: Manhattan destroyed with a big explosion (just like Armageddon and Independence Day) or with a "psychic bomb" accompanied by a giant, fabricated, alien monster (like nothing ever seen before)?

In every trailer there is the scene of The Comedian being thrown out of a window. Why is his death even necessary if there was no secret island where the squid is being designed for him to accidentally discover? The main plot of the movie is Rorschach trying to solve the murder of The Comedian. The tongue-in-cheek answer to the question "how do you write a detective novel" is always "I start from the end and work backwards". But, if you change the end, how can everything else (like the murder of the Comedian which is the act that starts all things in motion) remain the same?

Many many interviews with the director have him stating that the ending is not going to include the giant squid, but, rather, explosions seeming to be caused by Dr. Manhattan. I directed you to the imdb message boards because there are many links within the messages to such articles.

The running length is now 2:38. I have read a preliminary script a friend lent me and it makes sense with the death of the Comedian.

Wow, that is fucked up. I hope he changed his mind, but I have a idea he hasnt.

If they are changing it, I'm not going to watch it.

This is why Alan Moore opposed to the movie version of "The Watchmen" anyway.

I heard that they are changing it because the background to the psychic squid would have taken too much time to develop the story line. The ending they came up with still works; the same "villian" is behind it with the same motives. So the Comedian's murder still works in the grand scheme of things.

I was one who never liked the squid ending. I felt it was too out there, unnecessarily so.
