Nintendo WiiU

I would be very surprised if Nintendo would make a controller with a cable.

er... The cord is to stop people from stealing the controller...

I didn't like the see thru bodies playing on screen.
Do you mean the camera passing through the characters body? Sometimes this is done for a practical issue, if you look at inFamous the camera can pass through Cole's body because it allowed for freedom of movement, whereas in a game like Final Fantasy XIII where they went mad with the clipping the camera can not pass though the character which tends to make the camera movement a bit more stiff in smaller areas.

Is 5 years a long lifespan? Because it's very unlikely to me that Sony and Microsoft might come up with a PS4 or a X720 before 3 years at the very least. Sony has their "10 year plan" and Move; Microsoft has Kinect and another Halo trilogy.
In todays market 5 years is very short, it wasn't always considered short but people expect more life for their money. Even though both Sony and Microsoft have confirmed development on future platforms i doubt we will hear anything about the next generation consoles until 2015/16.

We may and i say may because of how it looks right now, we may see Microsoft release a new console sooner. The DVD format is dead in the water and is really causing problems for certain large games, like L.A Noir & FFXIII, L.A Noir was originally on 6 discs for the Xbox360 but was cut down later in development. This is one of the reasons you do not see PS3 exclusives going multiplatform because most are duel layer BluRay like MetalGearSolid4, Killzone, Resistance etc. In that regard the PS3 is futureproof for the time being.

Between 5 and 6 years is the standard lifespan for videogames (and by lifespan, I mean "time between a machine's launch and the launch of its successor". PS2 was launched in 2000 and PS3 in 2006, but there are still PS2s being made).

PS3 and 360 don't have much choice but have a larger lifespan, because at launch they were expensive and sold at a loss - only now they're profiting from it. And besides, their E3 presentations showed that they won't change focus from their current consoles so soon. The Wii can't go longer than 5 years, but it also doesn't have to. It had a great run. I predict the same lifespan for WiiU.

Wow, I did not know that. Very interesting. Microsoft needs a new console badly!

The WiiU uses IBM Microprocessors, the same type used in Watson, so again, it will sit in between the 360 and PS3.

If you're gonna do it, please do it right. ..|

What’s Under the Wii U’s Hood? IBM Spills a Few Chips

Luke Plunkett — While Nintendo normally doesn't like to talk numbers when touting a new system's capabilities, the companies providing those capabilities have no such qualms.

Like IBM, who today issued a press release boasting some of the Wii U's hardware specifications, including the fact the microprocessor serving as "the heart" of the console is a custom 45nm chip, with embedded DRAM that "is capable of feeding the multi-core processor large chunks of data to make for a smooth entertainment experience".

So, 45nm chip, embedded DRAM, multi-core processor. It's not everything, but it's a start. The chips will be made at an IBM facility in New York.

Additionally, IBM tells Engadget that the processor is based on the same technology used in the Watson supercomputer, the one that's been kicking human ass lately. It's not the same, of course, but is at least based on the same technology.

Here's hoping you can play games from the NIntendo DS and 3d on it.

Nintendo have confirmed the WiiU does not use BluRay or DVD. The console will only run the 12cm proprietary disc, a descision made to keep costs down president Satoru Iwata told investors.

The 12cm PD has a maximum capacity of 25GB, so as large as a single layer BluRay disc.

Wonder if that will limit the WiiU's graphics, since PS3 uses all 50GB's on a dual layer Blu-Ray. Uncharted 2 for example.
