I remember going to "play therapy" when I was 8 or 9. I was asked to play in a sandbox, and I remember dropping marbles into wet sand. I thought the perfect circles they made looked really neat. The therapist decided it meant...well, I can't remember what she thought it meant. Probably that I hated my mother. Anyway, everytime I'm at the beach now, and I see the wet sand, I think about that therapist, and what she might've thought of my life. Would she nod sagely and murmur, "Yes, yes, that makes perfect sense"? Probably.

We used to build little dams at the creek next to my grandparents house so we could "swim". The water was cold! But we always had a great time

And then we would eat too much fruit and get sick!
