It's official - i've quit smoking! (!)

After 100 attempts i've finally managed to kick the habit. Ok, being diagnosed with Perecarditis(?) gave me a much needed boost, but sensation of freedom from this addiction more than makes up for the little niggles that the absence of nicotine in my system.

I know it's early days yet - but i the worst part has got to be the first 3 days. I've had 20 quid in my pocket all week - normally that would have gone on booze n fags on a saturday night - but nope, its still there! (!)

So just a little encouragement for any one out there trying to quit - its possible - keep at it!

Good Luck. Are you using anything to help(patches, gum etc)? It shows enormous strength of character... whether or not you want to admit it.

So, what will you be spending the extra cash on?

Nice job, Nonimus. Best of luck with it.

With the 20 squids... I dunno... buy porn?

I'm not using any quitting aids i.e. gum or patches, purely cold-turkey. I did think about using some nicotine gum when the cravings got really bad, but then that would be putting nicotine back into my system instead of ridding my body of it.

What will i be spending the extra cash on? I'm gonna crash at my mates pad in Spain after my exams next summer and then we're going on a tour of the middle east (Jordan; Petra; Israel; Dead Sea; Egypt - Pyramids etc etc).

Well, i don't plan on giving up nose-picking or JUB-ing just yet - one step at a time huh?

As for going smoke-free, i've seen it done in California - no smoking in any public places and during my time there got so pissed off with having to go outside for a ciggy that i quit for 4 days. Even as a smoker back then i could see the benefits of banning smoking in public places - it does encourage people to quit!

Congratulations, Nonimus! I know how hard it is. I've tried many times and still haven't succeeded. Hopefully within the year I can join you as a non-smoker. At today's prices, I might not have much choice soon.

Did you have 'buddy' support? Someone who could talk you through the cravings? I think it would be terribly difficult to go through it alone.

Good goin' Nonimus ..| :=D:

Cold turkey is the best way, and now you've got to that bit when you've realised you ARE going to be able to stick with it... (!) (!)

Hey there Nonimus - I want to join in the congrats and I wish you continued success in beating Mr Nic-O-Tine - remember those Superman ads??? - "With my x-ray vision I can see the harm that cigarettes do to your body"

I smoke within 3-5 a day and only started in my mid 30's - every packet I buy I promise myself that it will be my last - hope I can use your example in trying to quit myself.

I hope you are feeling better - go steady on the nose-picking though;)

Many thanks guys - i'm just working on doing the everyday things i do only without the cigarettess - your encouragement is really appreciated, now if you'll excuse me - i'm going to take out my violent mood swings on some random living creature in the bark garden!

Congratulations!! Believe me, the worst is behind you!!

YAY!

anyone who wants to stop smoking there is an easy way and cheap first throw out all ash trays and smoking equipment lighter ect
next get some licorice root
that is a root of the licorice plant
cut a piece to a ciggerette length
thats your friend from now on you take it every where
what you do is put in the mouth and nibble and suck and keep it in the fingers like a cig after a few days the end will lok like a pain brush you can trim it and the taste of the licorice root is quite sweet if you try and smoke a cig after you have sucked and nibbled the licorice root the cig will be revolting it takes time but it sure works and is better than patches and the licorice is good for blood cleaning and has many detoxin agents try it works

Congratulations Non!..| ..|

You know, smoking is one of the leading causes of statistics in the world today.

Wow Nominus, this is GREAT news! Keep on the track with this, please. You will NOT regret it. Not ever.

I am only one of many JUB'ers who will be unconditionally supportive of your decision. I have too often seen the "end result" of lifelong smoking, and it's not pretty. 12 days ago I visited a friend who will certainly die from his lung cancer before Christmas, and yet he was smoking all the while I was there.

You have done the right thing, Nominus. ALL my best wishes remain!

Urm, lets see - it was Sunday i packed it in, Sunday to Sunday is 8 days, monday, nine days, today 10 days! YAY! (!) (!) (!)

10 days - smoke free! The cravings are nothing more than little niggles now - but i had a massive craving for a chocolate-fudge pie - which i satisfied :D

Again, thanks for your support guys, means a lot to me!
