Patti Lupone, lost it on stage when someone was taking pictures during her big Mama’s Song finale at the end of Gypsy.

Patti got fed up when someone was taking pictutes, which is a no no.
she stops the whole show to yell, “Who Do You Think You Are!
There is no video only audio, but man oh man I wish I had been there

Right, she is upset over pictures and someone is recording the whole show. :badgrin: But I don't blame her for getting upset, the person taking the pics was out of line.

You have got to be kidding me. Who do you think you are Patti Lupone. You have no right to do that. She is as bad as Nathan Lane. I'm sorry but I was always taught that you work through anything and unless someone is dying you don't stop the show. This is reason number 55 why I dislike this woman

Actually, Patti has EVERY right to do that. I saw Peter O'Toole stop performing Henry Higgins in PYGMALION on Broadway until a drunk who was heckling him was ejected. I saw Martha Raye onstage in a play stop when a couple arrived 20 minutes late, tell them: "Here's what you missed because you were too rude to arrive on time." recap the play up to that point, then say, "Can we go on now?" and return to the play. The audience applauded her.

It is true that Patti LuPone is a huge diva, and no one to piss off, and you can dislike her all you like. I'm not nuts about her myself. But the person at fault here is the person who had to be ejected.

The person who recorded the exchange was also stealing the show. I've seen people kicked out of theaters where they were caught cam-cording the show, and I once turned in the person I was sitting next to when I saw that he was recording the opera we were watching on a hidden cassette recorder. In his case, they just took away the tape and the recorder. After the show, he was given the recorder back, but not the tape.

When people take pictures or record live shows, they are not just disrupting, they are STEALING.

I am completely with Patti here. She was right to stop and insist on the asshole being ejected. The person with no right to do what they were doing ws the asshole kicked out.

Those of us who have seen the show waited for 2 1/2 hours to hear that song.

She had every right to do what she did, and I think it's fantastic that the idiot with the camera had to miss it, because doubtless he was waiting for that moment as well.

As for the audio, they are filming the show this month for DVD release. That may be why it had been recorded.
 
BRAVO! I'm totally sick of spending upward of $100 for a performance of any type only to have it ruined by some idiot with their cellphone/camera/blackberry whatever ... had I been there I would have given her a standing ovation for that action alone. There is no way this was a publicity stunt as the show was already closing due to prior committments on the part of the performers.
 
^^knew it was going to close early, but Billy Masters said that they had arranged to record it this month instead of in March.

I guess he got it wrong.
 
I think this one of the most messed up things ever. Patti Lupone seems like a huge, raving bitch now. Great performer. But still. The people who pay for (overpriced) tickets pay her salary. Who gives a damn if they're taking pictures. Granted the guy shouldn't have used flash. Besides, (s)he's kind of an idiot for using flash because the lights and everything should be enough. It's just stupid. I've never understood the not taking pictures thing. I'm a classical performer, and it's just something you have to take in your stride. People take pictures. Deal with it.

And, yes, the irony that someone is recording the audio of the show is not lost on me. I just find it outrageous. Classic pot calling the kettle black.

But, seriously, Patti Lupone. Your life is based on what other people think of you and that people take pictures of you and will pay to hear and see you sing. Grow up. Who do you think you *are*? Better than the people who pay hundreds of dollars for your performances? Nope. I sometimes wonder how actors/actresses are now some of the most adored figures in the world today. They used to rank just above whores in society. Go figure....
 
She comes from a line of Divas, so I am not surprised about her behavior


But the guy deserves it, that is a complete asshole that has no interest about the other people trying to watch the performance, and about the performers
