Pay More - get less

There's a big push to get you to sign up for their apps to get discounts.

Not gonna happen. Stay the fuck off my phone.
Those apps are just a way to get your information. They just cause you to get more advertising.

I'm sure some are worthwhile, but my experience has been that they make things needlessly more complicated.

We are so fortunate for not shopping the sales, but my grandmother was almost religious in coupon clipping and getting the deal...although sometimes I wasn't sure it was good value.

Having gone through the Depression and WWII in Europe, she was obsessed with never being without again.

And it was only in the last few years that we exhausted her supply of various staples like light bulbs....almost 50 years after her death.

We only shop for the things we need. Never stock up. Never impulse buy because of sales.

But we also have no issue with buying close to expiry date products that we need that will otherwise get thrown out. We loathe waste on both a household and larger scale.
During the lockdown in 2020 I had enough toilet paper and paper towels stocked up to last the whole summer.

We are approaching times when stocking up on everything from water to medicines would be wise.

A big part of that is to reduce staff - if you order on the app they don't need to have a person to take your order.

McDonald's discounts their fries on the app virtually everyday. You order on the app - pay on the app - just go to the location give them the code and get your food. Not a fan but at least you get something (a discount) for it.

/\ Thanks for the info. That sounds very convenient, and possibly more accurate, to me.

But, then, I'm that guy that everyone hates who stands at the counter, or blocks the drive through, staring at the menu trying to decide what is least likely to give me the raging shits.

^^ That's me, too. Like, at Taco Bell, what the heck is that? So I just get crunchy tacos.
I like the tostada thing, what was called a chalupa in high school. It's basically a flat taco but with re-fried beans instead of taco meat.
Last time I went to Taco Bell they don't sell that anymore.

I don't go to fast food places enough to know what they have beyond burgers and fries or tacos.

The mess of pottage isn't worth it to me.

I won't be scheduling more intimate time with my phone.

I won't be walking around with earbuds blocking out the people around me. I like meeting people.

I see this week that the makers of V8 juice are labelling their juice as 'Original' with a brand new bottle design. Theoretically the same volume...but they have gone the Coke route and cheapened the recipe...it is now the same as the cheap house brands ingredients that put water as the first ingredient...having gone away from actual vegetable and tomato puree to concentrates.

I was able to tell the difference because I had a glass of the old juice and then had a glass of the new.

So disappointing.

Well now they have pretty much ditched the beet juice as well.

Instead of tomato puree, it is water, tomato paste and then some combo of the other veg.

It's all about inflation and one of the worse deals is stick deodorants where most of the container is empty space.

Stick deodorant is still a thing?
I used Mennen Speed Stick for years... and all of a sudden it started to burn and give me a rash when applying after a shower. So I switch to Old Spice stick. That was good for about 10 years.

Now I use aftershave. Get some Pinaud/Clubman from Amazon. Lots of scents. Shake some into the palm of your hand and rub it into your pits.
Smells good. Doesn't cost much, actually.

What you want is the alcohol to kill the cooties that make the stink in your pits.
The weak rubbing alcohol is suppose to work. Not the 90 proof.

I plan to try vodka someday.

Slightly off topic.

Year ago I was kid and had a decent job. I was movie crazy. We had a store called Media Play. They sold movie posters, books, action figures, mugs, etc. All crap I loved but didn't need. I use to go in all the time and price things. A few year later they had a closing sale because they were over priced. Up to 75% off. What they did was up the price on everything then did the closing sale % off which dropped it back to what it was. I bought nothing since I knew what they did, but their store was a mad house. People were buying everything.

Same thing happens for BF sales. I like to price watch.

Don't let any excess go to waste!

I wish the feds would tax manufacturers who overpackage, especially with all the microplastics found everywhere. Use excessive containers for volume, pay more to recycle them.
